Ditto, and what a great Mk1, an inspiration whenever I manage to pull my finger out and sort the red one in my fleet [:$]

Ahh thanks guys! [:$] The car had only been on the road for 1 week and I hadn't had a chance to set anything up. Tracked the car by eye, timed the engine by ear, lol! It was even dropping bolts on the slalom circuit! Hehehe!

A lot more body roll than I expected too. Feels very flat. Might just be the very tight corners.

Great pics there, and nice to add some more flavour to the thread [:D]

I saw this car before it was converted to an ABF, when it was a 1300 - and it's nice to see a project going full circle, being 100% self built, and then getting the rubber stamp by setting FTD on the Inters slalom. It's a very functional track orientated car - built, not bought, and that includes gearbox and ?engine? AFAIK.

I think that's the tight corner where it's really rolling, but it generally looked flat and pointy on the slalom.

Just wondering what poundage your springs are as it looks like it handles really well.

Not very high. The shocks are valved for 280lb fronts and 350lb rear. Springs are the same. I don't want to make it too hard is possible. Prefer large ARB's.

I had recently removed my front shocks on order to extend the bottom plates. I need to gain more positive camber at the bottom of the shocks due to the wide tracking adding too much camber. I have a minimum of over 3 degrees negative per side at the moment.

    Nice monotube H&Rs

I am going to fabricate some extensions but have to get a friend to do the welding due to lack of equipment.

    Hopefully be ready for Curborough!

Look forward to doing battle again at Curborough ;)

Where did you get the GC top mounts? I'd like to upgrade to them at some point, but should really get the current TAS ones set up properly!

Nice build-up too, some smart parts used there.

Deffo Dan! I will be there waiting for you [:D] .

I loved your Jetta at inters. Looked proper flat round the circuit.

I got the GC top mounts from a guy on American Ebay. He had them up brand new at half the price! But you should be able to buy them direct from Ground Control. Your TAS ones should be fine too really.

    Bit of an update.

After some drama with broken front engine mounts etc I got in contact with Mickey Marrows who sourced an Autocavan rear engine mount. Very nice piece of kit.

The other thing bugging me was the crappy gear shift mechanism so I got hold of this after some recommendations.

I went for the version with teflon bushes and a teflon shift rod bush too.

The kit itself doesn't look very well finished but its all functional rather than pretty.

After the easy installation, I have to say the the gearshift has never felt so precise! They clunk into gear now and downgearing into 2nd isn't a hit or miss affair anymore. I will see how the bushes hold up to wear and tear but the kit is supposed to out last oem stuff by a fair margin. Not a bad bt of kit at all and delivery took less than a week from order to arriving at my door.

Yea, it does look like that. Badly finished parts etc. But it works great and works out cheaper than having it fabbed up. There is a much nicer looking kit with proper spherical ends etc but requires much more work to fit like drilling out old ball ends from the linkages.

The missing linkz kit is an easy solution. You could easily make this yourself as all the parts are off the shelf bits but requires some time spent for which I haven't got with the impending track day.
