A seller on eBay I will add the listing number on this post in a bit.
They are slightly shorter than o.e the vw ones have 14mm thread...these are 12mm.
Not that it matters that much.

    eBay number 221275756963
Select m6 select thread length &quantity in drop boxes::thumbup:

You need 20 for a sump.

Ok,so I've moved onto doing the head now and thought I'd just check out my parts etc..
Noticed my head gasket is different from others I've seen sold by herritage and classic Vw.
In fact I can't find another that looks like this one at all.
If you look at the one I've got you will see two waterways are missing can anyone explain this.thanks
The first pic is the one I've got the second pic is is Vw herritage gasket
Mine was sold to me as part of a full rebuild kit and was deffo listed for an E.V image.jpg image.png [:s]

I watched a video of building a ford V8 engine. The head gasket would fit the engine either way up but there were two holes missing at one end of the gaskets. This was to force water to the far end of the engine block from the water pump. If the holes are positioned at the water pump end it was possible the water wouldn't cool the whole block properly. But just flow through the easiest route.
I'm not sure if this is the same principle with your gasket but worth considering.

Great build by the way. Well done for doing it yourself

Started stripping the head(it's all new to me) the one thing I thought would be a nightmare turned out
To be nowhere near as difficult as I imagined...the valves and collets

Not sure it will be as easy putting them back but I plan to stick them onto the valve stem with a bit of thick
    Grease.

Plans for the head are new stem seals, clean up and re-seat the valves, new tappets and a good clean inside and out.

There is slight movement on the valves in the guides but from what I've read it's not a d.i.y job

I'm thinking the exhaust valves are beyond use,I await your replies.
The stem is pitted on one, they are fairly well fouled up,I think the seat area is a bit rough.
I don't really know what's good or not when it comes to valves as this is my first re-build. image.jpg image.jpg

New stem seals fitted today valves have been lapped in with course and fine paste.
Cylinder head was well cleaned but I wasn't happy with it so it's been etch primed and painted with v.h.t 800c
Aluminium engine paint. I plan to do this with all silver parts including the gearbox.
Valves are all in now (them collets can test patience like nothing else) image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Yeah I guess work picks up in the next month or so and so does the need to go places with the family. I think I'm going to need a tent or something to do this kind of work on the Mk2.

I've got some new hydro tappets but need confirmation that they are right.
Basically they are same dimentions as the old ones but the centre of the old one seems to be spring loaded and can be depressed with finger.the new ones have a collar on t image.jpg he part that makes contact with the top of valve stem and don't depress.
I bought these as they were sold as vw 1800 engine fitment but only mentioned a pb engine in the ad.
    Same ???.
They are INA 420002210. Advice much appreciated.

I think it's just because they're unused and not primed with oil.

Looking at the OEM part number 034109309AD it is the ubiquitous tappet used in a plethora of engines petrol 4cyl, 5cyl, V, VR, diesel (most recently the Crafter).

Ok cheers just seemed a bit odd that the centre
Depressed on the old ones.I bought them based on
The PB and EV bring pretty much same.
I have read somewhere about running them in
    At a certain RPM for a time.

I worked out that I could squeeze a Clarke CIG1015 heavy duty instant garage diagonally across the front garden, but I was the only one that liked the idea. Funny that. I've had some other ideas like retractable blinds one at the side and maybe another on top hooked onto the front bar of the roof rack. Might look into a bit of temp storage.
