So those professional MOT Testers on here what’s the skinny in the new tests ?

I know it’ll cause major upset and possibly fines for post 2005 Diesel cars who’s owners have removed DPF or blanked EGR possibly £2000 .

Let’s talk about it before the May 20th mayhem .

    I haven't removed mine, so I'm OK.

This is not new we have the same with catalytic since 1992 ish
You normally get 14 days to rectify it or get a NIP Notice of Intended Prosecution
Though how many people get done for not having a cat probably just get a fail and told it needs a cat

Normally anything pre regulation if fine if removed though if it's fitted it must work
So people that have gutted the DPF interest of deleting it will probably be a MOT fail
Not all Diesel cars have a DPF the old 170 tdi did and the 140 didn't

The problem with them clogging up is down improper use
Ie if people bought the 170 tdi and only did under a mile journey each day they bought the wrong car for their needs
The 140 tdi or a petrol engine would have been far better or even a electric car like you have

They only change the rules to stop people cheating the system this was bound to happen sooner or later

Probably good money in cleaning DPF's same goes for the inlets of quite a few modern cars

Some of the reports I’ve read are saying ten of thousands of cars will be scraped as it won’t be economical to repair or replace faulty DPF’s and blanked EGR’s and smoking engines will be finished .

It’s not just safety of the mechanicals now it’s peoples health as well .

The new MOT is a HEALTH AND SAFETY certificate for your car lol

More to do with getting cars with cheap road tax off the road so they can charge more on new ones
My 2014 Leon fr is £20 road tax
A new leon fr in 2018 is £150

At least my trusty diseasal Focus (16 years and 252K miles old) gets to belch and fart unmolested for a bit longer.

Last MOT the tester said it ran ridiculously cleanly, the Italian tune-up is working well!
