Calibrated for US RON 93 * Some very late production 99.5 mk3's came with a AAA engine using AFP sensors Many an enthusiast and lay people tend to identify the physical changes to the 12v VR6 engine between 1994 to 1995 as "OBD1 and 2" This is because the engine controller was changed to incorporate legislative directives that would relate to US markets as the OBD2 std became mandatory in the US as of 1996. The ECU software features between Europe and the US do have significant differences mainly due to diagnostics as most of the European OBD functions are switched off and will be calibrated for different fuel quality. The ABV 2.9 was not available outside of Europe as the minimum fuel with reduced performance was RON 95. This engine came with both M2.9.1 and M3.8.1 controlers, with the later controllers fitted to the Golf 3 syncro and the Passat Syncro. AAA abd AES engine can be operated with RON 91 fuel with a reduction in performance. 24v Engine code + valves Years Model fitment Capacity cc Bore mm Stroke mm Power PS@rpm Torque lbft@rpm C/R Comments BDE/AQP/AUE 1J Golf 4 motion 2792 81 90.3 204@6200 200@3200 10.5:1 Controlled by ME7.1.1 BDF '02-04' USDM 1J Golf and Jetta 2792 81 90.3 Controlled by ME7.1.1 Calibrated for US 93 RON Fuels AXK '00-'03 USDM EUROVAN 2792 81 90.3 204 200 10.5:1 Controlled by ME7.1.1 Calibrated for US 93 RON Fuels AXJ Beetle RSI 3189 84 95.9 228@6200 238@3000 10.8:1 98RON with reduced performance running 95RON, controlled by ME7.1.1 AZZ Toureg 3189 84 95.9 218@5400-6400 228@3200 11.25:1 98 RON, controlled by ME7.1.1 BDL Transporter T5 3189 84 95.9 234@6200 235@2950 11.25:1 98 RON, controlled by ME7.1.1

Just starting to dig out info. BR Motorsport (tuner) - VSR inlet plenum, 270 cams, K&N, Jetex. 205 bhp ("up 30 on std"). Torque up 17% @ 3,500rpm. Not 100% whether this is a 2.8 or 2.9. VW Cup Mk3 VR6 (race) - 2.9, 238bhp current spec. Motec mgt.
Nothelle information added from another thread which had this ad link: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C219312
Grant Motorsport did some decent work with these engines as well. Obviosuly for more ABV specfic info the corrado forum is a very good source of the good (eg Schimmel 263's) and bad (bore ovality) for this code.
AFP came in 99.5-01 MK4 (Some very late production 99.5 mk3's came with a AAA engine using AFP sensors). 12v '99 & '00 -M5.9.2 '01 -ME7.1 We got BDF code for all mk4 24v VR6 in the US. ('02-04'). ME7.1.1 I have a few "tuners" & "race" spec's for you to add. A few shop's here in the states have 250hp 12v's. I'll compile a list.
One of the pioneers here in the states. KCR Racing 04' R32 block Custom JE 89mm bore 14.1 comp 98 vr6 92mm crank Schimmel performance rods 06' 3.6 cylinder head welded all extra coolant and oil port to match r32 block Full Ferrea valve train KCR custom 3.6 downpipe KCR custom intake manifold Another KCR car. I dunno the spec's There are alot of N/A VR6's. 95% are running Lugtronics SEM.
Many thanks for the OEM upates in post 8. I have ammended them back into post 1 in blue. Hope that reads ok
