Aaahh. Its a MK1 convertible

So its got a k-jet DX type engine, which would be correct and they use a vacuum advance distributor. For that bundle of wires:
green/white - 5th injector thermoswitch (big brass 2 pin on front coolant flange)
    red/black - 5th injector thermoswitch
blue/black - oil switch on filter housing (mk1 are opposite wire colours to mk2)
    green/black - oil temp sensor
yellow/red - dash temp sensor (small black sensor on front flange)
brown - earth for WUR (2 pin metal thing on front of block)
    red/white - power for WUR

Then the yellow wire goes to the switch on the head, and you'll have a single brown/white wire which should have a ring terminal which is then earthed to the head. If you look at your plastic coolant flange o nthe side of the head you'll see it has a double stud, it should go there with a nut on top.

5th injector and thermoswitch are wired like this. 5th injector blue plug it doesn't actually matter which way round the wires are, but it does matter for the thermoswitch brown plug:

Yes the green/black for oil temp will run to a female spade behind the fusebox, then another wire from the dash loom plugs into it.

So it was wired correctly then, as i ve just followed the instructions mentioned earlier and joined the correct colour wires rather than the earlier botch job.[:D] I will follow the instructions again but the thermo & WUR needs new plugs on as wires are pretty bad. Really appreciate all the help.

    Sorry to hijack this thread, but back to the starting question;

I need to prime my oil pump after fitting a new one and rebuilding the cylinder head. Rather than disconnect the distributor, could i just spin up the intermediate shaft as I haven't fitted a new cambelt yet?

    Thanks

it doesnt matter which way round you put the WUR wires either, its just a heater inside :)

The brown/white needs to be earthed to the head can't see where its going but as long as its goodearth you're ok. Its for the dash clocks so you want it to be solid. Apart from that wiring looks good, you can ignore the dizzy spade its only for certain types of cap

R1ch yes you could spin up the intermediate shaft if its easier for you

Rubjonny, you mentioned there should be 2 earths connected to the head, but I only have 1 which is coming outthe sleve with all these wire. I have got another going to the battery which is from the ignition ecu.

yeah sorry the 2nd earth is for the digifant ecu which you dont have, I mentioned that as I assumed it was a 91 mk2 gti. On your cabrio kjet it just has the 1 earth to battery from ignition controller so thats all good, and the single brown/white earth to the head I mention above is for your dash clocks :)

Ok so I messed about with dash and checked at closely and realized that the small chip with 3 prones only 2 was connected, so took screw out and slide all 3 prones where they belong and now getting fuel guage, and engine temp light flashing, but still no oil pressure light.

hmm. ok if you get to the cluster plug omn the bottom of the clocks, try popping an earthed wire into the back of pin 11 does the light come on then? (can loop a wire between pin 1 and 11 that should do the trick)

ok it sounds like someone has removed the oil warnign buzzer board from the speedometer, common 'fix' for people who cant figure out why the buzzer wont stop buzzing. sometimes the boards do fail its true, but sometimes you really do have low oil pressure

Part number for the board after 1984 is 321919064M, which is the same as fitted to MK2 Golf up to 1990 and Scirocco 84-92 if it helps, plus later polo, T2 85-92 and B2 passat. Not GTI specific either :)
