So it seems that the humble engine oil sump plug somehow wasnt sufficiently well designed And needed to be re-engineered..... As found on many of the newer model VAG cars. One use only.....apparently.............adding several to the cost of an oil change And needing yet another specialist too to remove....... Stuff like this really makes me cross. What was wrong with this? GRR
i guess so, a regular bolt would just strip out, hence the coarse thread plug. the mk8 golf is coming out with a sump made of hummingbird egg shell, cos thelowest point of the doesnt need to be knock resistant, and vw can sell more engine spares that way.
Later Fords have similar, with just an R clip you can pull out with your fingers to lock it in. Crap.
Plastic sumps will go down well with the guys wanting to really lower the cars. Most main dealers have no use for a sump plug as they suck the old oil out through a tube these days , making the sump plug redundant. First thing I bought for my A4 was a dipstick. I like the old school way of doing stuff. Rather than having to wait for the car to tell me the oil level when it feels like it.
