I'll try to give as much info as poss.

I have a mk2 16v, hardly used over last 2 years. Last used in October.

It has always had a smell of exhaust but couldn't decide if petrol or oil, neither really.

Often spluttered on start needing revving for a min so get a 2nd hand idle valve which buzzes way better. Seemed to fix problem.

Last year developed alternator problem with blue wire so when using in October had to rev it when started to self charge which isn't great. I fixed the problem now.

Going back to start the car after 3 months sorn it splutters and miss-fires. It idled the first time but not since.

I tried the throttle switch, seems ok.

Tried cut off valve, 12v and clicks when connected.

Now has strong smell of petrol in oil.

Is this from starting too much? No idea why it miss fires. Dizzy cap bit burned but ok really.

    Could coil cause this?

    Cheers

Just running very rich I'd say tbh , especially with KJet and the issues you mentioned . Drain , refill with good semi synthetic , and take for a good spin . Even better if you can change plugs , check timing and CO too.

    Thanks for reply.
The CO is set to 2% as I saw on a guide here. Might have it put back to 1.6.
Plugs are not old but dry and sooty.
Would petrol in oil make it run like a bag of spanners then?

    It shouldn't tbh .
2.0% should be fine as long as you aren't just driving 5 minutes and stopping all the time .
