    Hi,

What differences does a Polo GT engine have from a 1300 Mk1 Driver engine? I thinking inlet and exhaust manifolds, carb, head, cams..??Does anyone know if the bottom ends are the same?

    Thanks,

    Leon

I Couldnt tell you the differences offhand but put a Polo GT Exauhst Manifold + Gearbox on the Driver Engine

And it will be a bit of a flyer for a 1.3 Like.

GT uses multi-point digifant injection for a start, and I can't see the inlet and head being the same for that reason.

the gt engines use higher compression pistons,

and the head has hydraulic tappets

Different engines in a lot of ways, the head on the GT is a hydraulic
one with a camshaft on removable bearing caps not on bored
bearings, so you can get the cam out without removing the head.
They have elctronic ignition campared to the points on your golf
(easy swapped thoug so no worries) The pistons aer different to get a
higher compression ratio and the bottom end is different to cope
with a different oil pump (I guess for the extra oil for the hydraulics
in the head) The GT has a seperate fuel pump and later carbed ones
are on the other end of the head to your golf engine. They swap a
treat (completly) and although they are different in a lot o ways I still
havent figured if the heads are interchangeable. I think the manifolds
are swappable as I have old exhaust manifolds on my late polo
    engine.

    What you got planned?

There are differnces in the water manifold on the back of the block,
and in the one on the end of the head, if you are swapping a GT
donk into a mk1 golf then use the bits from the golf and it'll plub
into the radiator easily and the sensors will work as they should.

lol didnt know they were multipoint injection [:$] It looks like in stuck with this POS carbed 1300 over the summer and was wondering if sticking on some polo gt bits would make it any more bearable,as maybe I could find some cheap stuff.Im gonna stick a weber replacement carb on and just run it for a while :) When ive got some money together and get rid of my gti maybe something credible will be in the mk1 [:D]

If i was going for a transplant I wouldnt go for a gt, there are much better value for money transplants that can be done. Also TBH the 1300 isnt toooooo bad [:$]I find it bearable and fine around town :)
