Hi All, just skimming through this thread (I went to the Autostadt years ago, around 2004 by the way and it was ace. Hired a Mk5 Golf when they were a brand new model) and noticed the comments on winter tyres. I've got a full set of nearly new 195/65/15 winter tyres, currently fitted to BMW wheels, that I'd be happy to sell if anyone wants them to swap onto VW wheels? They don't fit any of my current cars or I'd be using them. I used them for just literally hundreds of miles last winter on my BMW E36 328i before selling it. PM me if interested, I have all the receipts for them and they really do make a massive difference in poor weather conditions.

I'm pretty sure all but the most powerful VW models (i.e. those with very large brakes) will still run on 15in steels, won't they?

Have a great trip everyone, and Deako - how many cars have you owned since I last saw you...? :p

    Cheers, Stu

There is flexibility. The main thing is to arrive at the hotel between 6 or 7pm EU time and we can determine between ourselves the next appropriate step.

I am happy to have another car with me, however I tend to move pretty brisk and pretty capable of eating up 700kms with just fuel stops, even in my 22 year old Golf.
Happy to compromise a bit though...

Think I'll be on the 8am crossing. It's 6.5 hours drive from Dunkirk to Gifhorn. So, allowing for a couple of short relief/fuel breaks I should be there between 6-7pm. Also, I will most likely stay in Folkestone in a travelodge or something the night before.

Reckon, I can start from home, while you are boarding the ferry and beat you via the train and JENVEE power to Dunkirk! LOL

    nut20v,

If you are leaving Dover at 6am via DFDS, Gaj and myself will meet you in Dunkirk from 8am or 9am EU time.

We are rolling on the train and will have a blast up the E40.

Gaj, I will like to book the 6:50am train. We should be able to meet Nut20v at Dunkirk at 8am (9am EU time) once I do not smash my sump lol

I'm thinking I might take the 6am crossing too. Forgot its a 2 hr crossing including embark/disembark, so arriving at 9am European time should mean it can be a slightly more relaxing drive to Gifhorn. What do you think Tris?
