With the ferry you need to check-in minimum 1 hour before, and the crossing takes often longer than the advertised time....also unloading takes longer...

Train / Eurotunnel check-in need only 30 minutes in advance, most of the time there are 2 crossings per hour, if you arrive sooner you get the chance to get on an earlier train.
Other Plus is that you have a 2 hour freedom earlier or later.... if you booked a crossing at 8.20 am , it allows crossings from 6.20 till 10.20 am
Often when stuck in a traffic jam you come away after the 2 Hour timespan aswell..........and you can book a cheaper crossing and arive at a later crossing....
Most of the time you are over within 1,30H from check-in till driving of the train ....once the train has stopped , unloading is within a few minutes... I had a couple 60-65 min crossings....
Thats a luxury certainly when you need to travel long distances and once you get tired...travelling home

I have travelled to the Nurburgring and used DFDS quite a few times before Hugo! ;) But I'd rather pay 30 each way than 60 each way. I prefer to relax and eat a hearty breakfast while on the ferry.

You don't want to know Stu. But the last 3 swaps have been due to separation with my wife.

I have been asked what hotel we stay at in Gifhorn.

    It is Hotel Deutsches Haus

    Deako you staying in Dover?

I work in Calais and have used the tunnel daily for the last 14 years. The crossing is 35 min your in the tunnel for 20 min the rest of the time is doing to loop to the platform etc. ferry to Calais are 90 min and are very rarely late these days.. Unless it's blowing up.

Don't forget you crossing times home are local times (French time) so don't get caught out.. Seen too many people getting caught out.

Can anyone pm me the details as I plan to do this trip soon.

I would love too but leave from work is six weeks notice so not a chance of getting the time off.

Yes. I've done the trip a few times over to the Ring. I'm getting the Dover -> Dunkirk crossing and staying in Dover Central Premier Inn the night before as I'm travelling from South of Birmingham. Couldn't handle 12 hours driving, so breaking it down.

Bloody jealous of you, good luck to one and all- its a fantastic place to visit and you'll love every minute. Visit club Tao for a top night (opposite Subway) and the cocktail bar beneath it. Smileys pizzas are pretty damned awesome and make sure you get some VW currywurst and ketchup when at the Autostadt.

    Plus lots of photos!
