Post up parts you should only buy genuine!

    I just think this topic might be useful for us as there are some parts that are not worht buying from Gsf etc,

    Il start with blue Temp sensor thats all i know about at the moment thanks. I hope this is of some use. :)

    Head gasket - why not? GSF tend to sell Elring and Victor-Reinz head gaskets if you go for the better quality items. They are good makes. Not had any trouble with wheel bearings from GSF either.

    One thing I would advise to never buy from GSF however is the upper steering column bearing / ignition housing for the Golf MK2. Utter piece of crap!

    agree with Trev, mine looked like it was made out of plasticine. Top mounts as heard the rubber goes quickly with the cheaper GSF ones.

    Mk3 Front suspension top mounts - the copy ones fall apart!

    Never had a problem with the bearings or gaskets either.

    i heard the panels are dodge tho?

    Gearlever housing repair kit (the one under the car)
    Coolant flanges
    Thermostat (if you can get one from VW now :()
    Header tank

    all these parts arn't worth scrimping over for the effort it takes to swap em :)

    BTW non-genuine MANN oil filters are exactly the same as genuine ones :)

    starter motors - tried 2 from them within 2 weeks before i paid the extra for a Bosch one...


    Anything in a white box...

    bonnet stay clips the vw ones are about 20p and are awesome!

    hang on a bit..gsf sell bosch , the same as what the dealer sell

    id say track rod ends and ball joints, vag are slighlty more but last better

    Wheel bearings
    Cam belt tensioners
    Anything else with a bearing in it
    Door handles (dont fit too well....... may have just got a duff one)

    the dealer wont post, and you have to pay up 1st before they even order parts.


    think gsf are better than euro car tarts


    there rocco handbrake cable was 2 " too short. the gsf one perfect fit

    Some makes are weaker than genuine, one poor guy went through 2 of em before he fitted a genuine one :lol:
