    Hi,
First note, I have put it back on!
I had a problem where using my wipers on automatic would cause something to start smoking just behind the steering wheel, so I took off the steering wheel, replaced the stalks and replaced the steering wheel. Drove it for the first time since this morning and the steering feels really heavy and sometimes felt like it sort of slipped.
I'm assuming it's to do with how tight the big nut is as that's the only thing I think I could have gotten wrong?
    Any advice appreciated!

Sounds more like the power steering belt is slipping, check the tension and condition of it.

if you suspect wheel nut is loose try to nip it up, soon see if its not tight enough anyway
