The center exhaust box on my Mk3 Golf GTI 16v Anniversaryhas gone and needs replacing. Rather than spending the 100+ on a replacement i thought i'd go for a new cat-back system.

Which ones would you suggest? I dont want a stupidly loud sound, just a resonable tone at an acceptable level. The current exhaust is the original one on the Anniversary model. I'm not interested in a tailpipe that points upwards (DTM?).

Links and pics would be great too.

    Cheers.

Insurance... bah!! that's the biggest shaft ever with my car!

Tell your insurance company you've got a 1996 Golf2.0ltr GTI 16v... insurance quote isn't too bad... tell them it's exactly the same but the anniversary model and it goes up a whole insurance group and over 200 !!! The reason being the anniversary model already has a upgraded exhaust and tyres.. if i tell them i'm changing the exhaust again they'll hit me with another premium.. What a rip!

I've heard a few good reports about SuperSprint exhausts... http://www.supersprint.com/a_prodotti.asp?modello=vwgol55

How much louder will the car be with this

    as opposed to this

I was thinking of one of these two back boxes to go with one of the above too.

which do you think will be louder, the straight through pipe, or the silenced one? Let me think.....

I think it'll be a lot louder with just the pipe! Will probably take a leak you off on long journeys, and will attract the wrong kind of attention. Quiter = better IMO.

Best to hear a car with the system you want already on it. The good thing about the custom exhausts is that you can specify exactly what you want, inc. the pipe design.

Has anyone got any prices for the centre silencer and the replacement pipe and what would you reccomend, surely the centre exhaust replacement would sound the same as the OEM already fitted?

Those Supersprint link pipes make the exhaust 'quite' noisy

I replaced the 2nd and 3rd silencers on my old 16v with them.. 50-80mph was deafening [xx(]

GolfGirl's Jetex sounds good without being intrusive - depends if you want to sound like a WRC car or not ;)

I've just ordered one of those link pipes to bypass the centre silencer only cost me 39, gonna see what it sounds like with that cos it not alot of money to lose and it can only sound better than std anyway.

Where did you get one for only 39? I take it it's not the supersprint one?

Yeah it is Supersprint I ordered it from C+R in Nottingham and it also helps because I work in the motor trade so get good discount with them.
