Nice body kit - but they've just dipped the parts bin for some straight awap aprts for the inteior etc, so i'm not sure it justifies the price tag. . . Be interesting to see what the standard spec is and what is optional.
Totally agree. It needs both these to stand out from the 2.0T FSI and be the complete package. I wouldn't be convinced to buy this over the standard (if I had the money to choose!) I understand why they have done it as people don't want to pay 400/yr road tax on a VW. The premium brands can get away with it as their buyers are less likely to worry about running costs.
Why do people automatically assume the V6 is better?? How many of you have even driven the rocco with the turbo engine??
Yes, I had fun finding out .... Golf GTI - EA113 Scirocco - EA888 Scirocco R20 - EA113 S3 - EA113 http://www.eb-bruehl.com/files/pr_mtz_engl.pdf http://vorsicht.org.hk/forums/showthread.php?t=6821 http://www.arinahnell.com/other/vw/tech/20tsi.pdf http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpcontainers/do/vdp/articleId=126390/pageNumber=1 http://www.imotormag.co.uk/news/249676/vw_scirocco_r20_snapped.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_S3#cite_note-0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines At the recent Q5 launch here the Audi staff pointed out that VAG were pursuing a policy of reducing the number of different engines in it`s range. With the new EA888 being tagged a `world` engine I was surprised to find the R20 using the older VW unit.
i really like it! The concept scirocco was the first vw id really really wanted to buy, but I felt that the production one had lost some presence. This has brought that back and 2wd and that power in an advanced 2wd should surely be fun and more than capable and much lighter but hell ya!- a v6 and 4wd would be great too, but i aint complaing!
I just can't get excited about new vw's-nicest thing i've seen from them of late is the up concept (apart from the wing mirrors) If they do an R-R version in an r26r style i might just raise a smile
I love it - chassis dynamics and tyre tech have meant that the performance of fwd on tarmac is easily as good as 4wd these days - on the loose/snow, of course not, but for 95% of the time, just as good, less complicated, more economical yadda yadda yadda big atmo engines and 4wd are a dying breed - I wouldn't buy one if they made one
^^^ Agreed - having spent 3 years with a MkIV R32 - was an excellent all-rounder, great audio and grip in wet / snow / ice but too heavy and twitchy - Haldex ? rear end. Always had me a little uncertain how it was going to behave. Wish they`d fit an LSD instead of electronics though ...
FWD FTW unless its something extremely clever such as active yaw control, or a car with massive power
Sadly, the only time I drive these things is if something's wrong with 'em! This one had a dash rattle at PDI, also wearing the fail badge - T D I.... Must say, phone cameras have come along way recently!
Here's some pics from some VW brochures they were handing out at the 'Ring - a pre-prod test R20: Note the graffitti !!!
