Hi fellow members, bought a set of 16” mk1 Audi TT speedline alloys 16”x7” to fit on my diesel mk2 golf. The car is lowered on coilovers but it has the wide track vr6 front axle, should I go with 205/45/16 tyres or 205/50/16 tyres ? Planning on getting toyo proxes r888r and the 45 profile are a lot dearer than the 50 ? Plan is to get 312mm TT front brakes so these should clear the calipers !
Go on willtheyfit.com and use tyre size calculator, will give rolling radius etc so you can work out suspension clearance which was an issue I had with 17s on a mk2. Also look up equivalent tyre sizes as if changing 15s to 17s or 16s. Do they do a 195/50x16? Running 195 50 15s on borbet 7j, and on the polo gone 195/55x15 to 205/40x17 to keep clearance. https://www.tyresizecalculator.com/
312mm fit under 16s nicely. Forgot to say, it's tyre to shock spring plate that the tyre caught on when the Profile was too big, and arches if width is too much.
That’s why I choose these wheels, the TT comes standard with 312mm front brakes and these wheels have ample clearance for calipers, they are very much flat faced and light at the same time ! At the moment I have toyo proxes r888r 195/50/15, odd sizes are hard to come by and I might as well get a common size as they are a lot cheaper ! I have some 16” tyres on my t4 van, I will take them off the rims and have them fitted to these wheels…will update the thread with pictures !
