Always had a stiff gearstick on the polo, its a 1.2 9n3 so has an o2j style shift. Doesn't spring back to the centre, have even put a new spring on the selector as that was broken when we got it, 97p from vw. When i did the starter I had to disconnect the cables at box end, and stick moves freely, so it must be box itself, is there a simple remedy, or is it more involved, I've got used to it, but my wife drove it today and struggled a bit. Cheers Dave
take the tower out and have a look, probably just the sleeve bearing inside the tower which needs lubing up. worst case the bearings are rotted up and it'll need replacing
Will give it a go, any pointers for it? Didn't appear to be, were free and when refitted I reset it properly. Thanks boys.
pretty simple 2 bolts hold the tower in. once out the selector lever will come out of the tower casting andyou can inspect the condition of everything. the tower sleeve bearing is in the cast part, its aplastic housing with a load of ball bearings it, if the upper seal isnt 100% moisture gets in and the bearings rust. there isnt any way for gearbox oil to get up there so the bearing grease gets washed out and then it starts rusting
