Basically what it says in the title. And it’ll probably be a flop, but we’ll see! I couldn’t see a thread like it?

    I’ll go first [:D]

I got some flank drive plus spanners.

A full set of snap on spanners! You must be filthy rich sir! So what does a flank drive spanner offer over a normal, uhm…. Halfords “advanced” spanner?

If you zoom in on the picture, you’ll see the teeth on the inside, they add extra grip. Your standard spanner with just be bare. The ring end always has extra grip too.

I'm not a brand snob, ans I've a perfectly smooth floor so it should last me a long number of years.
My Teng one in work is moved around a terribly rough floor every day and it's holding up pretty well.

Got this last week to work on friends car, and for my driveshaft swap today, so much better than chubby short ones, an 800mm m8 spline bit for 1/2" drive.

Seemed the 75mm bit I used on vr6 shafts with extensions still cocked it over at an odd angle still, with this today I could do 3 bolts before having to turn the shaft.

I always use a standard long 3/8"drive bit with a long extension bar works a treat 1/2" drive stuff I find is a bit overkill for those plus it doesn't fit in as well.

So the correct tool is a spline then. I know the driveshaft bolts have been mistaken for torx and even Allen key heads before now. Do they call a spline a triple square in the States?

I have seen 6mm Allen keys before. No idea where they come from.

One of the shafts I got new for the mk2 came with Allen bolts not spline, didn't use them.

XZN is another aka for triple square. I bought the Sealey VS0590. Their version of the VAG long 5mm hex ball end sump fastener tool 3249. It appears to be a later revision than the sales picture as it's tip is shorter, wider and flatter than a standard ball end. Gearbox end bolts went in first try.

My garage floor is too rugged for a chest, if I wheeled it around it would be like the stair scene in Home Alone!
