What other things is Mr Reeves thinking of changing Chris now that he is working from the shell up?

Yep - trying to find the CCC / The Golf scans which were on the Jabba site at one stage.

Didn't save them down myself - anyone got them?

Good to see oyur making progress.

Quick question. What are your views on strut braces? I here from some people that they don't do anything, and some people say that they do work, then some that say they only work if they are fitted inbetween the suspension turrets, not on top like is fitted to the Mk1.

On the Mk1 at the bottom, they're a must. The bar on there is fairly rigid, even though it has angles in the design. Welding them in is an alternative, but it's affected by whatever else is in the way.

Ok, another trip down the garage, and more progress.

    Engine in:

Volksport engine mount - last one or two on shelf sourced direct from Autocavan founder/ex-racer Geoff Thomas, (though Mickey Marrows on Edition38 is arranging more of the old Autocavan stuff to be re-made):

Underdrive pulley - originates from the old 16V days, but this engine revs to 8k also, and just helps stop the alternator from spinning at silly speeds:

Interior shot just shows cage and also visible, seen from underneath last time, is the battery box sunk into the rear floor. Spare wheel well was removed in the previous pics - plate carried over from old shell. Bitumen removed from floor (done on previous visit).

Old battery tray therefore chopped out and mounts ground off:

Main progress of late is getting the electrics in & some painting on the front bulkhead. Bling handbrake handle & sleeve came with shell and will be being binned!:

    Dash is half readied:

Usual door lightening - doors that came with the shell are being used & neater job of cut out done this time:

Handy items for these sort of shell builds - available from Machine Mart / Clarke IIRC:

Tank's in, lines are done, engine should be running this week.

    Still to do:-

    - finish wiring
    - remove old seat rails, weld new ones in, seat trial fit
    - dash in, clocks wired
    - gearshifter to fit
    - Sundry interior bracket removal
    - everything out for an interior paint
    - glass & perspex to fit
    - wider arches to fit, incl. raising of rear arch lip for 7" wheel clearance on +10mm per side from std track
    - new Smith & Deakin fibreglass bonnet to fit
    - exterior paint

Looking good for a finish pre-Xmas - the guys are doing a great job.

looking good, really taking shape now. any thoughts of going super light with fibreglass/carbon fibre panels or is it not an issue as the cars so light anyway
