Hi Guys My car has developed the annoying howling noise when I engage gear with the clutch. From research it would seem this is a very common problem with the car and would need the Throw out bearing replaced but it is a very labor intense job. I would like to order good quality parts to fix this and just get my Mechanic to fit but my question is what do I need and if I should get anything else fixed/upgraded like the clutch / fly wheel etc ? Would appreciate some help
THis forum seems to be a little dead compared to my other forums like M3 cutters. Anyone know a good one to join for a vw golf GTI ?
The MK6 is quite new for some of our contributors, had it been a MK1/2 I'm sure you would have had an answer already. The clutch release bearing (UK terms) is a pain to replace because you have to remove the gearbox but it's not an expensive part. OEM would be my choice or Febi. Changing the clutch/flywheel is personal choice. The standard DMF will last a while yet and the clutch will take a little more power from stock but not a whole lot. I own an Edition 35 and quite shocked that you need to replace this part already!
Thanks for the response, from research it seems to be a common fault with the 2010 model, cheap plastic part or something, I wonder if I can get vw to do it for me ?
I asked to make sure as it is quite odd at those miles. Your gearbox is similar to am 02M gearbox, and the clutch release bearing tends to last more than 100k miles before replacement. As Mat said that part requires gearbox removal. Depending where you are there might be an independent specialist nearby.
Did not really wanted to spend money for a grage to get it wrong and spend to much on other parts that do not need replacing. The video is exactly what I have:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mfCZzT8qwQ
