    Hi,

I have a mk1 which does grassroots competition (circuit and classic rallies) and road work.

Following a rally the tracking needs doing (steering wheel no longer straight ahead) and suspension checking.

Car currently entirely standard with standard 13 inch wheels.

What would you recommend for tracking? Is there anything to be gained by moving away from standard? I assume that is all that is adjustable? Is camber adjustable?

Daily use cars havr toe in scrubs outers of tyre and negative camber to move the contact patch inwards.

Race cars work the tyres harder and roll on the rim so they add toe out and negative camber, this move the contact patch to the inner and hard cornering rolls the tyremoving the contact path more to middle. Tyre pressures also impact the amount of tyre movement.

Outer of tyre gives more edge bite, inner allows more lateral slip.... totally depends on track conditions what you do and a good inspection of how tyes wear will let you know what to change.

Caster is fixed, toe and camber adjustable. Rubber, poly or uniball joints?

Not sure! I suspect it might be a mix of rubber and poly, or possibly just all rubber.

I am running 2degrees negative camber and (both my 14in and 15in)tires work well with that. I have to run 3mm spacers for the 15in to avoid strut-to-tire contact. Anything less will give excessive outer tire wear. I have been adjusting hot tire pressure to help turn in(pressure is dependent on tire).
