Ah, so its a nice to have rather than requirement ? Its twice the price (at least) of CDS, thats all.
The FIA require 35m x 2.5 tube, but glancing at the MSA Blue Book - here - I can't see anything. Loads of people use box section in track cars, so it's personal choice.
Per the MSA (for racing) they have to meet the description of 'fit for purpose'. Box/tube - seamless or non-seamless are all fine. Some FIA seats come with indications/instructions apparently. HTH.
Always good to have the info Although I bet not many on here have sleeved the box / tube. Suppose its different for trackdayers compared to those racing. I`ve done things that are safe but probably don`t confirm to the Blue Book.
Mike, as mentioned the photobucket had maxed out. All pics are back up Quick pic of a mid-'90s works Impreza co-driver seat rail, profiled and sunk into the floor as far as possible. The side of the tube will be cut open due to the profiling, so it is welded along the lower edge for a distance. Bag of potatoes, so no arguments about sightseeing. He or she sits as low as possible
Would it be possible to have this thread resurrected with the original pictures fixed? I will be tackling this job in the very near future.
This may or may not help... I've recently welded some tubular rails in, documented here: https://clubgti.com/forums/index.php?threads/copes-gti.169739/page-37 cheers
Very helpful indeed - Thank you very much sir. Is it necessary to remove the horizontal bracing too? I have only removed the rails either side and the bracket where the seat lock pin sits thinking that would be enough. Its a Mk2 Scirocco but the floorpan design seems pretty much identical (ish)
Unless you're 5ft tall the centre brace has to go in order to get the seat low enough. This is my mk1 Scirocco at the moment. Not sure how much effect remove the centre brace will have but I'm sure its negligible - its made of cheese anyway.
Awesome thanks for that, my plan was to keep it in for some additional floor bracing, however I have yet to properly 'mock up' final seat position, I'm about 6ft on the dot, so looks like the bracing will be going - cheers!
