    Possibly a photoshop guru job!

Berg Cup / Group 2&4 Mk1 Golf kits are so established, but aerodynamically the game has moved on. Just a glance at the tail edge of one of these modern arch kits shows a different treatment to the release of air pressure in the arches:

Nothelle were on it, in period racing:

    More discrete profiling:

    Bordering on not trying?

So does anyone fancy updating the classic 'Berg' kit to reflect what a clean sheet design would give us today? Or is this sacrilege? :o

Seeing as the KWL car is a modern recreation on a nice white canvas, a start point?

    Nice work

A couple of (easy) backtracks minus spoiler and minus diffuser for comparison:

One more, with all of retrowhore's tweaks, some subtle, but back to the 'Berg' round arch kit:

I know it's all a bit theoretical (!) but what do people think?

[IMG] What about a hatch spoiler like this?

Pics I've got aren't at the right angle for cutting out and I can't create that from scratch.

The spoiler is very current BTCC though, so in some ways it works (see Focus pic in post 1). Maybe a bit of tweakery left in it.

Thing is, the diffuser is way OTT for BTCC... to the point I'm thinking we dream up two different specs!!

The wing where it is wouldn't add much as it will be in the broken air from the back of the roof. The boot spoiler would be better in that case. Alternative is to lift it higher, but that would only make it look worse.

Some really interesting articles in the Circuit Driver mag on aero at the moment. Free on the iPad.

Just looked wrong to me, classic 80's shaped ruined. Boot spoiler more attractive tho

But if you were entering a Mk1 Golf in a contemporary BTCC-type competition... to win... you'd need a wing.

That's the fit-for-purpose inspiration behind the thread :)
