    Folks,
What is the actual VAG or Bosch part number for the Mk2 (8v) GTI distributor cap?
I've looked on ETKA but unless I'm going bananas I can't see the engine codes just a list of distributor caps but nothing to tie them back to the engine code/type.

    Thanks
    Robert

This doesn’t stack up for me - my chassis number goes beyond the bands
that are shown on ETKA and if I look at the closest one to my VIN that VAG part number is showing an actual distributor.
    It’s a late (June ‘91) Digifant/PB distributor cap that I need.
Apologies if I’m being thick - I’m normally able to check myself but this particular part is giving me a right pain in the rectum

You may be misinterpreting the chassis number bands, 'cos the way I read it, there can't be any "beyond".
The first one, item 15, is for everything up to and including the two chassis numbers quoted.
The next line, item 16,is for chassis numbers within the bands quoted
The third line, item 17, is for all chassis numbers from the two numbers quoted onwards.
Yours will probably be in the last one? Chassis number higher than MW480001 or MB150001?

If you can PB I’d appreciate it. According to the paperwork I have for the car the the VIN ends as MW640800 so not too sure what the frack is going on but it doesn’t appear to be within the parameters

640800 is definitely higher than 480001, so yours has distributor version 17.
Cap will therefore be part number 051 905 207

Spot on chaps, I've purchased a Bosch unit (Bosch No.1235522444) - I only trust Bosch for ignition/electrical/electronics etc. I got a Bosch rotor over here but it was impossible to get the cap - available in the U.S. but between shipping, customs and currency difference it was just mad money.

Beru parts are also just as good, I've used them on my MK2s for years. Though I do love a Bosch black cap if I can get one, looks so much cooler and must be worth at least 5BHP
