Picked this up recently and found some water in the boot. Bodywork around the left rear light looked a bit iffy so I stripped it back and found this. From the inside: I don't have funds, skills or inclination to get this chopped out and 'sorted properly' - for now I want to stop the rot from spreading or getting much worse, and get the boot watertight again. So far I've wire wheeled it to remove the chunks and loose bits and then applied some rust converter. I'm not expecting any miracles but should hopefully slow things down. Then I slapped on some silver hammerite - because that's all I had to hand. Question is - what next? Filler? Silicone sealant? Something else? Not bothered about aesthetics but would like something that will last for a year or two. Cheers
As above, really not much else to do there but get the welder out. If you aren't worried about aesthetics, I'm sure a mobile welder could sort that without too much fuss. Coat of epoxy primer (non porous) and a rattle can would see you right until you could paint it properly. Anything over the top is likely to make the situation worse later down the line, especially silicon sealant.
As with the others, cut and weld. Filler, silicone, expanding foam etc etc are not acceptable @dodgy has a welder I’ll get my coat……….
if you just wanted it sorted for the short term patch in some kind of mesh on the back to give something for the filler to bond to when you skim it on the front. I'll not last forever though looking at the state of it but should do you for the short to mid term till you sort out funds/skills to fix proper. book yourself in for a welding course or just get one and a load of scrap metal to practice on and get stuck in
I tried to book myself on a welding course. I'm sure Sheffield colleges did them back in the 80's. But no only for Apprentices now!
Send me some pics @saladman and I'll have a look, excuse to come over with biscuits. Had a bit of a refresher on the welding front recently on the mgf Shame didn't spot it before that other shell got a piggy back off to the sunset.

I still have a rear end chop here with good metal - knew it would come in handy! @AndyBa I had a similar experience a few years ago - tried to enrol on a welding course and basically got told no. Resorted to youtube learning and getting some tools but am still in the 'blasting holes through thin metal' and not much time/space to do it.

^^^ thats the least biscuity biscuit I have ever seen, it would dissolve when in the same room as the kettle never mind if dunked
Thanks for posting. There is even mention of Tea in the reviews (Yorkshire's finest I guess) but no biscuits @dodgy have you tried LU Beurre or digestive chocolate chip biscuits both from Tesco. Bet you can't stick at one !
Easy, can't eat chocolate, but try lidl toffee hits, it's chocolate flavour coating (like trio and wagon wheels used to be) and 47p a pack. @saladman put us on to Yorkshire biscuit flavour tea, it's great.
