DESCRIPTION:CGTI Karting Grand Prix – Thruxton\, Saturday 17/03/18 @ 1500hrs – Supported by the Classic VW Cup \nAfter the fun had at the last CGTI Unlimited karting night\, we are planning another karting session to bridge the gap between the New Year at the show season. So don’t worry if your project car is not moving at the moment… Jump in a go-kart! \nEvent Details\nA number of members recommended Thruxton\, so we have been in touch with Thruxton Karting Centre. Their 900m “National” circuit gives plenty of opportunities to test your cornering skills and also stretch the karts up to speed on the straights. At 7metres wide there is plenty of scope for wheel to wheel racing and brave manoeuvres! \nOur friends at the Classic VW Cup kindly offered to sponsor the trophies\, which will be awarded to the fastest 3 drivers! \nVenue: Thruxton>> Andover http://www.thruxtonkarting.co.uk/\nLocation: https://goo.gl/maps/ttpGVGdwkd92 \nKarts: BIZ Thunderkarts with the Honda GX390cc engine giving ~13hp \n“The Thunderkart from Biz is combined with the 390cc Honda Thunder engine\, a lighter kart with a more sensitive and progressive response to driver input\, particularly at speed. In comparison to the more commonly found rental/corporate chassis\, the race chassis ultimately gives a much more rewarding karting experience. The engine is big on torque ultimately propelling the kart to speeds in excess of 55mph which is achievable on the kart circuit.”\n• 13bhp\, 390cc\n• Reaches speeds in excess of 55mph!\n• For drivers 15+ years old (ID will be required for younger drivers)\n• Minimum height: 5ft (1.52m) \nCurrent lap record: 49.72 seconds.\nVideo of a few laps at Thruxton (best lap 52.231 seconds on Lap 10)\n \nRace format: Grand Prix\nMinimum of 13 drivers for semi exclusivity. Maximum of 30 drivers.\nGroups of fifteen are split into two\, and run with a slightly different format. \nFormat\n• Arrival & Sign on\n• Suiting up\n• Safety Briefing\n• 8 minute practice for group 1\n• 8 minute practice for group 2\n• Group 1 heat 1 – 8 laps\n• Group 2 heat 1 – 8 laps\n• Group 1 heat 2 – 8 laps\n• Group 2 heat 2 – 8 laps\n• A final – 12 laps\n• B final – 12 laps\n• Presentation and Trophies (top 3 drivers)\, kindly sponsored by our friends at the Classic VW Cup \nThis format makes for an ultra competitive session! Points are scored in all the heats to decide who drives in which final (all drivers take part in a final). There will be a trophy awarded to the fastest three drivers and apparently champagne for the winner. \nEvent takes approximately 2.5 hours. I estimate each driver will get between 30-35mins of driving time in total. \nCost: £82 per person\nThruxton are holding the booking for us (we have 1st refusal)\, but we need to cough up for the minimum 13 drivers asap to prevent loosing the slot. \nWe will need payment in full before we commit and book the slot. Once we have booked\, we are committed to paying for the minimum 13 drivers. For this reason\, the event is open to CGTI members (paid/non-paid) and ‘friends invited by CGTI members’. Note\, the 15+ age limit will be enforced by the venue. \nDue to the nature of the booking\, if you have paid and cannot attend\, we are unable to refund your money unless we have more than the minimum 13 drivers attending.\nWe will collect all payments in the usual way via payments(at)clubgti.com.
