Low confidence in the gaming industry - transparency is rising now

According to the latest population survey by the Office of Public Health, 56 percent of Swedes say they have gambled in the past year. At the same time, Swedes' confidence in the gaming industry is low. Now several companies have decided to take action.

According to the Swedish Quality Index survey, Swedes' trust in the gaming industry is at a level that "cannot be considered acceptable over time." That said, trust in individual players is much higher, especially when it comes to the bookmaker you play with. There is a difference of almost 30 index units between trust in the industry and individual entities, which according to the Swedish Quality Index is a big gap.

Re-discussed gambling law forces players to choose casinos without a Swedish license

Sweden passed a new gambling law in 2019 with strict gaming rules that companies must follow. The changes to the law have been met with both praise and criticism. Praise among those who believe that player safety has increased, praise among those who believe that the strict requirements lead players to look for better betting sites like bonusodds.net to bet on more profitable resources .

Generally, it's the strict gambling law that makes Swedes turn to casinos without a Swedish license and could possibly affect players' attitudes toward the industry. The Spelinspektionen report shows that many choose foreign casinos because they are allowed to offer more bonuses, and that these casinos are not linked to the Swedish Spelpaus suspension registry.

Another important part of the gambling law is the so-called duty of care. The duty includes the fact that gambling companies must constantly monitor player behavior. If companies find that any of their players are at risk of developing gambling problems, they must intervene and take countermeasures.

Increased transparency should increase trust

Much of the work of gambling companies takes place behind the scenes and is not visible to regular players. In a debate article in Dagens Nyheter, three executives from three Swedish gambling companies say there is a big difference between what the companies actually do and what the public perceives them to be doing. What is cited as the reason for the low level of trust.

Three gambling companies now say they will increase the transparency of their anti-gambling efforts to increase trust. Among other things, they are talking about reporting what percentage of players they are in contact with as a result of risky gambling detected and what the consequences will be - how much players have reduced their gambling after taking action.

"Risk" for new gambling regulations

In the aforementioned debate article, the authors believe it is important to increase public confidence in the gambling industry. This is because low levels of trust increase the risk of adding new gambling regulations, which could hit the industry players hard without actually dealing with gambling issues.

The ultimate consequence, according to the authors of the article, is that more and more customers are beginning to look for other alternatives to entertainment. Among other things, this may be due to the fact that more people prefer to play in foreign casinos, which are characterized by freer rules. This web resource states why some Swedes choose foreign bookmakers.

The fact that Swedish players choose local casinos is a priority for the Swedish gaming market. These companies pay taxes to the Swedish state, create many jobs and contribute to the sponsorship of Swedish sports. Here are some of the most important reasons why it is important to make a difference in trust.
