My latest project/restoration. Basically a 4 door mk1 with OE south African mods. Not be to everyone's taste, but I wanted one, so bought and restored it to 'useable' not concours condition. Emphasis has been technical quality, not show winning paint/detailing. Any comments welcomed..... Its now complete, for a spring/summer 17 of useage as a 'daily' round town runaround, odd show, maybe. Condition/spec is OE; Jon
looks good they have quite a few differences don't they Does yours have the different cross linkage for the brakes ? have heard about them but could never find a part number or good picture
I was lucky enough to get one of the SA brake bars recently. A guy on vwgolfmk1 forum imported some into the uk. Can confirm there are no VW markings or part numbers on them, just a date stamp on the part that holds the brake booster. Happy to answer any questions you have about it as I haven't fitted it yet. gav
was more for my own curiosity than anything bud been looking on Etka as it has SA parts as well but couldn't find it If you have pictures of it that would be nice
'on a well known online auction site'. It had no bids, so in I ploughed, as usual. 540 miles in a day towing. Pictures flatter it a bit, but it drives nicely, very like a 'driver' AEN gearbox so decent ratios. Will get some pics of the linkage posted, any areas you are particularly interested in? Jon
Not in here? https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/za/citi+golf/goci/1997-276/7/721-721005/ Same as the pre '85 Mk1 RHD Sold in Europe.
A boy in Fife has a pair of new doors for one of these. Probably more valuable as caddie doors though
Thanks. I found these on line, everything on mine is fairly mint, except the drivers wing. Been quoted 407 to deliver a wing from SA to UK and cannot pay this, its too much, so still on the look out for an alternative..... Jon
Trying Germany at the minute. The chassi number code is quite interesting; Mine is AAVZZZ17ZMU This breaks down into AAVZZZ : south African VW 17Z: Mk1 Golf M: manufactured 1991 U: manufactured in a VW plant due east of cape town, called 'Uitenhage' A genuine QI fact Jon
