Is there any way we could state which companies cover mods as well? The reason I say this is because I just took out insurance with Privilege went to them to say I wanted to lower the car a bit and they said they wouldn't cover mods for under 25s... This also came after someone else posted about other underwriters not covering mods (can't remember which). I think it would save people time when ringing around... Thanks in advance
I've just sorted the insurance for my new '91 16V. I'm 38 with 8 years protected no claims and the car is standard apart from adjustable coilovers. Here's the fully comp quotes that I got from several companies: Adrian Flux-466.74 with 350 excess & includes breakdown cover, Brentacre-400 with 350 excess & without breakdown cover, Footman James-373 with 200 excess & includes breakdown cover, but 35 extra for the homestart cover, Hastings direct(who I'm with at the mo)-170 extra for the remaining 9 months on top of 248 that I'm paying for the CL at the moment. New quote-653 + 75 breakdown cover, HIC-488.74 with 350 excess + 42 breakdown cover. Edited by: Aquablue
I haven't told Direct Line about any of my mods, but I really think I ought to when I come to renew the insurance. Can anyone recommend a good company who will insure me and my modifications cheaply? I'm 22 but have not had insurance in my own name yet - no NCB. Cheers guys.
Trey some of the one's that I & other people mentioned as they are some of the main one's that are used.
any one got the number for brentacre? had a quick look on t'internet but a few came up with different numbers. Thanks

Hi Guys, Hopefully most of you will have heard of us, but im posting just to remind you that we are here, able and would like to help if we can for your performance/modified car Insurance needs. We have had a connection with CGTi since our launch in 1996 and have sponsored the club national day, along with supported with Rabbit advertising for most of that time. With modified cars, sites like confused which are usually really good are restricted as most of their panel Insurers don't cater for modified cars so when you call to take up the offer it usually either changes or is withdrawn. You're usually better off speaking to specialist companies than large call centre orientated companies with overseas call centres, as scripting doesnt really lend itself to bespoke vehicle modifications. Our staff have good technical knowledge and consider modifications upon their merit. With modifications such as brakes/suspension, air filters, exhaust systems and even alloy wheels (unless v.expensive 18/19's such as split rims) do not usually effect or impact dramatically upon premiums. If you'd like a quote from a performance/modified vehicle specialist (it's all we do) with a good technical understanding and relevant benefits such as like-for-like replacement of damaged/stolen modified parts, Track cover as an option & agreed value for heavily modified vehicles give Greenlight a go. To reach us either log onto www.greenlightinsurance.com or call us on 01277 263030 and remember to mention Club Gti as we have several specific schemes to cater for members with concessionary rates allowing up to 12.5% off due to a combination of good VW claims performance/marketing concession. Examples of our rating based upon a 25 year old male driver living in a semi-rural area with 4 years NCB are as follows: MK2 Golf GTi 16v (17inch alloys, coilover suspension, scorpion exhaust) 287.75 MK3 Golf Gti 16v ((17inch alloys, coilover suspension, scorpion exhaust) 327.75 MK3 Golf VR6 2.8 (minor mods) 457.75 MK4 Golf Gti-T 1.8 150BHP (minor modifications) 427.75 MK4 Golf Gti-T 1.8 200BHP (Revo chip/remap) 497.75 MK4 Golf Gti-T 1.8 215BHP (2001- Revo chip/remap) 527.75 MK5 Golf Gti (200) (standard) 557.75 These rates are based upon a 25 year old driver with a 4yr NCB and will vary dependent upon your own circumstances, but do give an idea of the premiums we are starting at. Hope this helps. Kind regards Tony

Hello All - For that 'classic car' quote...I've just insured my mk1 1.6 gti for 147 F/comp with 'Lancaster insurance'. I get legal cover plus breakdown cover and a key ring if I lose my keys the finder gets 20 etc etc. I've stated 6000 miles which I'll never do. I am 34 though if your wondering.....
