My Mk2 scirocco already had 256mm front brakes fitted when I bought it but I'm thinking of upgrading to 280mm, my question is Can I use my current calipers and carriers with the new bigger discs and heritages g60 adaptors, or do I need different hubs calipers/carriers as well as discs
bearing carriers can stay, what you need for a rocco is the 280mm adaptor brackets same as a MK1. calipers can stay as well but they're a bit smaller so may need 16v pads plus grind slider pin down to fit them over the larger discs. may as well sell them complete with carriers to a mk1 guy for 20 million scene $ though
Must be easier to simply replace the lot? It’s not a lot of money for all new and refurb a pair of hubs with new bearings. No need for adapters then?
there are no wheel bearing carriers that fit mk1 chassis and work with 280mm brakes thats why you need the adaptors IIRC there is a very rare Audi 80/quattro which has 280mm carriers which fit a MK1 but good luck with that
yep if it was a MK2 Golf he would just bolt the 280mm calipers and carriers straight on, they use the same bearing carriers as the 256mm brakes anyway so no problems there
For the adapters go for the beefy epytec ones or something similar, the cheapo ones on ebay are terrible!
I'm running the 280mm setup on my Mk2 Scirocco, the calipers (Lucas 54) needed a slight tickle with a grinder to get them under my 15s but they go, and in conjunction with a mk2/mk3 servo, bigger MC and fresh fluid etc they make for a pretty good set of anchors!
