No way! How bad is the actual damage itself then? Surely a guy like you could have that back on the road in no time?

    What a bummer!!

I'll be the first to offer a headlight if your fixing it or a donation if your replacing it. Its the least I can do for the help you've given over the years.

    cheers all!

i'll look at straightening it but its done a right number on the legs. trouble is its all bent sideways not inwards so i cant do the old chain + tree trick, plus id always have the feeling in the back of my mind that it isnt right. its twisted enough that the passenger wing is scraping paint off the door so i have a feeling its not going to be that easy

reshell it, it will be less hassle and probably cheaper than trying to repair this shell

that way you can have a nice decent shell with all the nice shiney bits from this car!

Sad news Jon, I'm sure there are plenty of free parts available on here if you need them mate. Main thing is your brain is unscathed!

Is there any chance that the water flange in the 1st pic would work on a 1.8 8v engine in my mk2?
So the over flow doofer from the expansion doesnt have to trail all the way across my bay lol

You mean the pic in the 2.0 conversion? Need the hoses that go with it near the oil cooler because you delete one hose but yes it will fit.

No luck. Id strip it for parts and scrap it instead of going for insurance. You will no doubt make enough money to get another decent Mk2 and not thave the hassle of a claim.

    Good news everyone!

I got off lucky, the damage looks worse than it is. By some miracle A1 Wokingham car spares have just got in a Royal Blue metalic GL so I nicked its bumper and slam panel [:D]
i swapped the bumper over today and it has slotted right into the chassis legs no problem, so it looks like its only superficial damage to the top of the inner wing which will be an easy fix

So now I have managed to source the parts I need plus someone who can pull the leg out straight for me :)
