so I decided to put some new eibach springs on to replace the sagged boges, and this happened:

    [:x]

Tried welding a nut onto it 3 times but no luck,. In the end a mate of mine came over with his van, which comes complete with fitted oxy torch. inner nut burnt off and a large set of levers got the shock out complete with what was left of the bolt still in it

    Success!

some of you may remember me asking you to measure your shaft so I could compare to mine, well this is the result:

and finally to bring you up to date, car is currently like this while I track down a pesky leak. On the plus side it finally gives me the opportunity to redo all the car wiring to my own specifications

What particular aims do you have regarding the new wiring looms?

a few optimisations mainly, for example the mk2 dash loom has a load of spade connectors in the middle which will all be deleted (between heater live, and glovebox light for example) the wires for the heated washer jets will be dragged out and run via engine bay as per mk3 golf. using mk3 ciggy lighter and stereo wiring mainly as mine has been cut, plus it'll have the power feeds for my vag-com port in it as well. looking at using mk4 twisted pair speaker cabling, though i may not bother. any thoughts on why mk4 speaker wires are twisted, any advantages of using this over normal mk2/3 wires?

I'm also looking at attaching the wiring to the bulkhead as per mk1 rather than havign it clipped to the dash, as it'll make remioval/refitting of dash much easier. plus the clips have pulled off the dash behind the glovebox!

the lighting loom will be a combo of mk2 and mk3, taking the mk3 round connector for ease of slam panel removal, with mk4 relay box added in containing my relays for the headlights. i plan to put a mk4 battery box onto it as well, thereby ensuring all live feeds are fused. plus i will use the 3 pin plug on the back for my fan and light relays to reduce the load and cable runs from fusebox.

for the rear loom i have removed the mk2 pump wiring and added in mk3 pump wiring, plus added in a mk4 rear 12v socket

edit: plus a small 'secret' project that I'm still hashing out, all will be revealed later

Oh and I'm going to redo my corrado 1 touch loom and move the control box. atm the lengths are waaaaaaay too long so it'll be cut right down, should save a fair bit of weight in excess copper

I'm not sure why the speaker wires are twisted in a mk4 loom. Twisted speaker cable is a no no in the hifi world, better quality sound from a flat cable running side by side

Twisted pairs have better rejection of interference, probably a good thing in an electrically noisy car environment. that's why network cables use twisted pair.

Plus the driving circuits must themselves be balanced in order to benefit from a balanced transmission line. Which perhaps car amplifier outputs are. But it really isn't going to matter a t*ss. Use whatever looks cool.
