kr is 139bhp becasue it has a great set of cams, 9a has 136bhp as the inlet cam is so lame, plus it has a cat. ive already said this earlier in the thread put kr/abf inlet cam in a 9a and it jumps to around 150bhp+ without doing anything else pl is same basic lump as kr and is similarly lower power than kr due to it being fitted with lame inlet cam due to the cat.
no you miss-read my post, the corrado and Passat had the KR too, but were both publicised as having 136bhp.
must have been a mistake somewhere then, like i say etka recons the 9a and kr are both 136bhp. maybe a marketing thing to make the 9a not look as crap compared to the kr corrado should never had the 9a, it should have got the abf same as the MK3. sell a 'sporty' coupe alongside a family hatchback with less power? what were they smoking

50 = Corrado M = Year 94 Other number is the last 6 from the vin. Third example is M for year 94 9A = engine code 6 digit is engine number. 053103351C should relate to the 051103373D number as seen on 'late' 16v castings, ADL,ACE,ABF and Post 94 9A. Pistons for ACE engine and post 94 9A match, but were a different number for the pre 93 9A and 6A engines.
M is year 01.08.90-31.07.91 for a Corrado R is year 94 specifically 50-M-021 000 and 50-M-027 000 are some time between 31.07.91 and 01.08.91

Thanks. Interesting variations. This is KR or PL. A breather has to change at the same time as the oil filter take off, yet ETKA doesn't think so! - when was the last production Mk2 chassis? (in Europe?) I have seen a late KR/PL block recently, with the late plastic breather Not off topic as such, just testing the data to be had from ETKA. Collective info notably all around the same time.
to be fair the chassis numbers in etka are a bit vague at times so it might just be a slight error with the chassis number listings. you could indeed get mk2 golfs (and cabby/scirocco) with the later blocks using MK3 style filter housings, but not so common. most of these cars would have been 8v though, so you dont see so many kr/pl with the plastic breathers on. even a german on the mk1 owners club was arguing with me that they didnt exist, I gave up in the end some people just wont be told etka lists the last vin number as 1G-N-NW300000, 31.07.1992. apparently the last KR lump for the mk2 was KR169055, made 31.10.1991 interestingly (or not for normal people ) the very latest MK2 engiens were 1.3 and 1.6 models, made towards mid to late 90s. not the usual codes though, look like cat/spi type engines corrado they made kr lumps up to KR170707, made in 31.07.92
No, not an ADL, it had an 027 casting number, but with a C-suffix - ADLs are 051s - see here. Lack of various lugs + various other features on the ADL. Is ETKA helping us pick a (rough) point at which there was a sea change in spec on the 9A in general?

I would say so. After all the people who compile the parts lists have possibly very little to do with engine homologation. One has to look at the key mechanical changes and differences 9A s ABF and as a matter of fact most of the 2.0 16v KE-Motronic engines and understand why even with standalone, these spec of engines never feels edgy as say the ABF engine on the same standalone. I have driven K-Jet 9A engine with KR inlet cams fully fettled and this is still no match, in terms of edginess for an ABF engine with K-Jet. Both in MK2 Golfs. The comparison test that was done just confirmed my thoughts developed during road mapping. Let us see what happends when the test for the ABF K-Jet vs the ABF Digifant occurs. Should be interesting. 9A engines are good when tweaked and the one in this comparison has responded to road mappping and ABF cams by extending torque further than the std spec'd engine. No doubt more to come from dyno development. But there is more technology invested in the base ABF engine and it has showed in this comparison so far.
It's almost worth taking stock of what the differences were between these MS engines on test. The heads vary in the combustion chamber, There are no knock sensors, nothing fancy working away in the background, keeping an eye on things we cant see. Essentially the differences are rod/crank angle, valves, cams and combustion chamber subtle diffs.
