Looks like a modern "Kstar" fuel only unit. Tristan, if you determine your resulting WUR control pressure causes a lean mixture @ WOT or at other loads/engine speeds you can use this system as a replacement to "modding" the regulator. It would make a kind of CIS-E out of a mechanical CIS i.e. by having a standalone control pressure regulator with lambda feedback. $499 USD is a lot to pay for a fuel only device though IMO.
Yes, the adjustable internal valve acts much like the injector that the KStar uses - to control the pressure.
for that kind of money it makes more sense to put it on megasquirt, since it doesnt even include spark control.
The WUR mod as I understand it will only act on a single point / area of your load range - you / your tuner decide where this is. This device has the ability to work across the whole engine load range and is therefore more efficient.
Does this run like the later k-star ones? I don't see the 5th injector for mapping fuel, or is it built into that large block? I remember on my k-star it had fuel per rpm on the software when filling in the map...
Mike my understanding of the way this works is that it controls the vacuum to the WUR (as long as the WUR you have fitted has a vacuum takeoff as those used on 16v Mk2s) thus allowing the control pressure to be regulated which will effect fuelling at the metering head and therefore to each of the injectors. It does not add fuel via a separate 5th injector. If I have this wrong then I stand corrected
This was how my k-star looked when i had the pc connected: Always interesting to know that there are new plug in systems to use on our old engines. iirc on the k-star the engine was pre advanced and the software adjusted it back along with the fuel
I have just downloaded and had a quick scan of the installation instructions and it seems to completely replace the WUR.....so I was wrong with my initial interpretation of it 'picky backing' on it but it does appear to control the fueling as I thought Tim
The way I see it: The KStar used the fifth injector ... not to inject fuel but to control the `control pressure` - the injector was placed across the WUR inlet and outlet such that when the ignition advance dictated it opened / closed thus affecting the control pressure thus affecting the fuel to the 4 injectors. I had the KS 301 which did ignition and fuel, the vacuum connection on the distributor was blanked - the KS module took a vacuum reference from the inlet manifold. ......... This `new` system operates in a similar way - takes a vacuum reference from the inlet manifold into the control module, relates this to / from the WUR - uses this info to act on an electronically activated valve within the `new` block (WUR relacement) - thus providing a fine control pressure adjustability across the engine load range. This `new` system is a direct replacement for the WUR mod and has the advantage in that it operates across the entire engine load range whereas the WUR mod does not. I think ..........
the k-star+fuel uses its own fuel injector, not the 5th injector. the 5th injector stays as it is, otherwise it wont be able to start properly when cold
Not sure I follow this Mind you I have never studied a KStar system so was only taking a stab in the dark that it used an additional injector to add fuel as required
