Been thinking about this for a while and wonder if there is someone who can do it i sure there was a guy on here who had it done I want to have my original number plates remade, have the original logos ect so the car looks like it did back in the day very sad i know The original ones are tatty now after 26years and i don't mind the new vw ones but the car is not new
I remember the thread and I think it was possibly craigs plates who could make the plates in the old font
Try 'dealerplates' at http://www.dealerplates.co.uk/ if you know the original dealer they will make copies of the plates that were on it new including the dealers name and logos
Awesome I might get some done at some point too, I prefer the more rounded/natural old style of letter. I'm sure you could get away with fitting them as they would have been fitted from new anyway.
i emailed the chap and sent him some pics and he is going to mock up a set if there as good as he says then no one will know the difference
Another source: http://www.fancyplates.com - not immediately obvious but they do standard old-style ones
I used this place for some plates after finding a thread of theirs with pics on another forum. http://www.passionrestorationproducts.com/ They were very good to deal with and are able to do a matching tax disc holder and rear window sticker to go with the plates if you like that kind of thing! Edit: The only pic i have but you can see i was in desperate need of them! that's what just a week or two of hot italian sun does! Fortunately the police here are too concerned with where their next coffee is coming from to bother with a foriegn car on illegible plates. *this was meant for the other thread by mk209 but never mind
Has anyone had a reply from dealerplates? I emailed them weeks ago and still havent heard anything. Can passionrestorationproducts make up a dealer plate when Ive not got an original one to copy? I know which dealer my car was sold at
Thread revival alert! It's 2022 and all the links above are dead. I am seeking pre-2001 font plates, ideally with dealer info/border. Can anybody suggest a link or place where I might find them? Secondly I'm trying to determine where my car came from (dealer/location), without shelling out for the VW history thing - any ideas? Cheers
Try https://www.dmb.uk.com/ they use to do VW dealer plates. Any dealer details on the service history?
@dragonfly thanks for the link for plates. No dealer history I can find but thankfully @dodgy came to the rescue and he found that the car was originally from North London. Cheers both!
@dodgy that looks an interesting reference guide. No doubt Colindale, London where my car originated from will be in there. Back to the times when there were a larger variety of dealers!
https://www.dmb.uk.com/prod/colindale-london-vw-audi-dealer-sticker How's that kiddo, looked it up for @saladman last night.
Thanks @dodgy for the info. @dragonfly can't see plates on the dmb site - I'll give them a call and report back
Be keen to know too, they made me up some a long, long time ago and couldn't fault the quality. Wanted some more a few years ago, but he said they'd stopped making them, even so called 'show plates', but were still going to continue with the tax disc holders / dealer window stickers however. I maybe picked him up wrongly but he gave the impression he was getting grief he didn't need from whatever outfit was responsible for licencing number plate makers.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-Of-...2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Found these on ebay the other night, and I've found a picture of the original dealer plates where my car came from so could get them reproduced, thought was a little dear, but it's a custom made item so comparing halfords standard charges it's a good deal, I'm just tight and used to pay about a tenner a set. https://proplates.co.uk/products/replica-dealer-number-plates And these.
