Cheers, the biggest pain was the heater control relocation it took a lot of fiddling after removing the centre vents to fit as it's all mechanical. Did it in the end. Then flush fitted a reverse cam into the boot door handle area (I'll have to post another pic) and a wire to gearbox and it works a treat :-)

That's in addition to the freeview digital tv, DVD, USB, sd, gps, iPod control and charging, Bluetooth dialling and audio streaming from me iphone4 that the unit does :-)

...plus the rare fisher 6cd centre console holder :-)

The specs on those headunits seem very impressive for all the price of them. Picture in Picture etc.
I don't think I'd have the nerve to do what you did to fit one in my mk2 though, I don't think I'd ever get it to look that neat.

    Looks very tidy.

Don't suppose you've any pictures showing the menu's and browsing and playing media from cd/dvd or ipod etc. I'm quite tempted to pick up one the slide out screen versions for my mk2.

Ill try get some pictures posted up. I never opted for the slide out screen as although much easier to install, being a touchscreen the screen would bend back all the time when being pressed. Also the screen ends up blocking your view of the road as it flips up over the height of the dash and is a bit of a distraction...

    SSA

    Hi

    SSA refers to, if I may quote Wikipedia's definition of a MarK 2 Polo;

An early-stop-start ignition system (called SSA) that would cut the engine when idle for more than two seconds to save fuel whilst temporarily stopped in traffic, and re-start the engine when the gear lever was moved to the left in neutral. The system could be enabled or disabled by means of a toggle switch below the light switch. Similar systems were later used on the Volkswagen Golf Mk3. Similar systems were developed by other car manufacturers.:)

    SSA

    Hi

Duff, it also occurs to me that you may well already know what an SSA switch does - I didn't - and just be asking what its used for in the Double din dashboard install![:s]

Either way, I've learnt what it stands for!

    Regards

thanks for the comments guys - the SSA switch I have isnt wired up at all in fact was never there originally I just shoved it in (after replacing the bulb with a blue led along with the other switches) just to fill a gap :o)

  19. this is amazing.

I'm just a few days away from possibly buying a MK2 GTI, and in doing my homework on head units, I'm absolutely blown away by this.

can anyone shed any light on how the double din would have been screwed in place?
