Has Combe been made slower since '84? as it says that they were doing 1:22s in a Fiat Srada Abarth and 1:24s in a stock mk2 8v!

I'm sure I've got that mag somewhere!
I always wanted a Strada Abarth when I was younger, haven't seen one on the road for years! 'Spose they've all rusted away now...

I've got some Mk1 GTI road tests from older copies of CAR, must scan them in sometime...

Darren - I saw a Strada Abarth for sale at the weekend, grey one in some mag I was reading. Might have been autotrader or classic car mart, can't remember which! :)

    Quality! :)

    Interesting quote:

"... there is an argument that says VW's refinement has gone too far. Early GTIs were refined up to a pinnacle of performance; later ones have been refined down so that, thought he sporty performance is all there, the car feels like anyone else's hatchback. The driver's involvement with the performance ... has been homogenised away."

And didn't they say the same thing about the Mk3 GTI .. and then the Mk4 .. and no doubt the Mk5! ;)

No chicanes back then at all. I drove a formula ford there about 8 years ago and they had no chicanes then either. It was a bloody fast track then, flat out from tower to camp [:D]
