Was checking tyre pressures yesterday when I spotted a load of gunk over my alloy. On quick inspection I noticed my outer cv boot has split, gunk everywhere . Sods law, fix one thing and another thing breaks . I'll do a search later as no doubt its been covered but if you'd have any advice for someone who's never changed one before it would be most appreciated . What stuff would you use to get rid of the grease (de-greaser ). Also would anyone know the size of the hub nut off the top of their heads as I don't own any large sockets and will have to borrow one . Its a 1990 8v GTI. Some pics:- Cheers.
30mm socket for the hubnut and lots of de greaser and cloth for the grease. always happens like that, clean the wheels - there goes the CV. Twice this has happened to me...
Cheers . 30mm socket and big bar coming up! Should I or how do I clean the cv joint after removing the boot?
Just wipe the worst of it up with a rag, you don't want to clean all the grease out of it.Just make sure their's no foreign bodies have got in their, whilst the boots apart. And get some gloves
