We're forever being told to get 'late mk3 calipers' to fit the rear of a mk2 to avoid ceasing... but no one seems to be able to identify the year... is this the answer: One set have the suffix 'RED' and also 'PRE-E2U', whereas the other set have no suffix... Are the ones with the 'RED' suffix early and the ones without it the late ones, indeed the ones I require? Cheers, help me clear this up... Fordo!
Umm, not sure when they changed, but new ones don't have a return spring on the handbrake lever, old ones do. Cheers, Joe
The suffix 'PRE-E2U' i believe stands for the 20th Anniversary model. Because every part i have searched for that is to do with the 20th Anni has that prefix with it. Also its list the ABF, AGG and AFN engine codes and they were the engines that came in the 20th Anni (the AFN being the 110PS TDI). So you would be right in that is the part number for the late Mk3 calipers. As the 20th Anni's came out in 1996! Hope that helps clear things up!
But do they have in internal return spring? or is the cable spring loaded in some way to pull the calipers apart when the handbreak is released? Cheers Fordo!
Yeah the spring is internal hence the reason to get the late Mk3 calipers as there is less chance of the spring rusting up!
It`s not the spring that rusts, it`s the stupidly designed shaft and internal mechanism that gets full of water.
they only say "late" becasue the very early ones came with mk2 calipers. anything with a 1H0 number is strictly mk3, if it's 191 it's still a mk2 part. I might have a pair of these coming up for sale shortly.
Tell me the Annis didn't come with Red calipers! It was the first thing that entered my mind if I'm honest, but I swiftly dismissed it as foolish! Fordo!
i think you'll find its only '92 mkIII's that came with the mkII style caliper. all the rest were the updated one.
