where do you think its heading? or where do you think its at? ive lost touch a bit lately with not attending many shows etc,is euro still big? word
big place is it? mmm nice 2ish hour drive looking at multimap. then i realise ill be in scotland ps:is 'go' becoming the new 'show' neil.
I hate the idea of "the VW scene" If everyone else in the world that buys a VW decides it needs dayglo two tone paint, I'll be quite happy being the only person with a one colour VW.
Porsche rims on dubs has been happening for a long, LONG time The euro-scene is changing for the worse IMO, too much american influence - mad airbrush artworks and stuff Too much of this sort of thing: which is impressive, but not for me I' afraid. Edited by: DarrenW
I need to dig up the old threads from around 98 from the old CGTI egroup lists. These same discussions we were having back then ! !
... i see what youre saying about the american/euro influence darren. no doubt the work carried out is very well done,is the mk1 pictured classed as euro? thought it was meant to be a clean look? neil.
euro is base model looks with mad wide small radius wheels , badass bling bay plus enough leather to fill a safari park stitched into the interior, with a few race bred goodies like a rollcage and strutbraces thrown in for good measure. imo the only way it should be way cool. too much stateside "hot rod" stuff goin on imo, it'll pass tho and euro will reign supreme because all it does is enjance what made the car famous or popular in the first place, not try and make it something else like all the other styles.
IMHO, I think 'the scene' is suffering from an overload of too many shows (if thats possible). To be honest, I can't really be bottomd trying to make it to every show weekend after weekend - only to see one or two different cars everytime. I love all makes and models from VAG, air-cooled and watercooled - but feel that we'd all benefit from more regular larger shows like All-Types, VW Festival, E38 and Inters. More people make an effort when it's a big show and there's usually a better atmosphere. There's nothing wrong with smaller shows... they've all got to start somewhere, but in some cases, I've been to bigger meets.
yep, these young pups eh? these topics go round like fashions! i wonder if those threads are still around somewhere infact there was the yahoo group aswell, same people, same thread, twice as many e-mails a day Edited by: gti8v
The VW scene is going nowhere! For the simple reason that when anyone tries anything different they get a right sl*gging for it. Someone posted some pics from 1997 GTI International on here a while back. All the cars were stylied pretty much the same as they are now. The only hope is for people to do somethng original. Go on, break the mold. Cheers, Jamie
The only person I can think of that is doing something unique ATM, is Paul & his 4WD R32 Corrado. Nothing else is "exciting" me TBH. The last show I attended was the VW Festival @ Harewood House. Now that was an excellent show! Nothing different as far as GTI's TBH, but a nice relaxed show with all VW types (aircooled included). Much better than Inters! As a whole, I'm starting to think about leaving the VW scene myself. Certain instances have cropped up recently that have questioned the mentality of people around here. It's only a minority, but I find myself agrueing my point, which at the end of the is common sense. I enjoy posting on here, but I was seriously thinking of leaving.
