Evening all. Just took the Golf out for a spin to collect the Chinese take away and when I pulled away at the traffic lights I heard a god awful racket from under the car and then some loud whining, a slipping clutch and the lovely smell of gear oil. So I pulled over sharpish and had a look….yes the dreaded ‘gearbox has S##T itself’ nice puddle of oil forming on the road (probably the diff- haven’t had a proper look yet). I pulled off gently too so I’m shocked this happened but hey that’s life. My mk2 is running an AUQ with the 020 gearbox. QUESTION 1 Do I just fit another 020 box and just wait for this to happen again or Question 2 Does anyone have a full 02a or 02j setup I can buy please cars hey…..
1. get 020, send to Martin Emment of gas n gears, aka Hotgolf on here 2. plenty boxes to choose from, just make sure its got a decent set of ratios inside to suit an 8v GTI
Thanks you two. It’s tempting to source another 020 box and basically forge the thing to death. Probably still more cost effective than buying an 02a or 02j complete setup. It’s a tricky one. anyone wanna buy my golf?
I’m collecting an ACD 020 box today. Probably going to try to rebuild/overhaul it myself. Want to make it strong if I can.
Does anyone know if the 020 gearbox code ACD has the larger type crownwheel? I’d like to know if I can use a specific quaife LSD I might be buying. Thanks
