try it in gear with a helper on the brakes

if that dont work try and jam the ring gear with the starter off or sump off and a block of wood

why are you trying to loosen it? if its to remove the crank pulley for a timing belt swap, stop what you are doing and buy a set of pullers. The pulley is held on with the 4 allen bolts, nothing else :)

What are you using on the nut, impact wrench or breaker bar? id use a breaker bar with a scaffold pole on the end and obviously stick some wood up by the crank. i used 3foot of scaffold pole on my breaker bar and even though the whole thing was bending it didnt snap, cant make any promises that it wont snap thou.
