1.6 mk3 same as 1.6 mk2?

    is the exact same engine used except for the injection system?

    is there a 1.6 mk3??

    i thot they were 1.4 and 1.8 (non-gti's)

    of course theres a 1.6 mkIII...don't think its the same engine as mkII though.

    all i know is that they both produce 75bhp, can anyone shed some light? :)

    well, the mkII will be quicker....weighs less.

    Remember there's two Mk3 1.6's as well - the earlier 75 bhp is, I presume, a similar engine to the Mk2. It's an 'old skool' 8v like the 1.4 and 1.8.

    From '96 VW brought out a new 1.6 16v engine, with 100bhp, which is a very different beast. It's almost as quick as an 8v GTI, though it produces the power very differently - ie. it's all top end and no torque.

    really? i new there was a more powerful one..but i didn't know it was 16v.

    theres also a 1.6 8v with crosflow head, theres a lad on here with one i think.

    th reason i wanted to know is that i was wondering if mk2 golf gti 8v parts such as crank, pistons, cam etc can be put onto a 1.6 mk3 like they can on a 1.6 mk2, does anyone know?

    No, I just posted it for a giggle.... Yes, it is, and a pretty good engine it is. Not enough torque for my liking but a very willing revvy little engine.
