I do think that using the K Jet could be really good plus your keeping
the original look to a point. If i could have found a microfueller i
would defo have went this route but i will carry on with the efi now.

I know you can use the t3 turbo off an escort rs turbo and saab 2.3
9000cse turbo injectors (pt no 280150421) might be enough for the
fuelling.Saying that i dont know if these injectors are efi.

But it depends what you will be using to control the fuelling.

Hope you get the Kjet working, ive got a turbo technics setup (Now Spare), that ive decided not to use, Its got the funky inlet adapter with the 5th Injector, I think you need to run another 4 injectors to ensure the correct fuelling?

The plus point is that the exhaust manifold has got the T3 flange so you can bolt on a bigger turbo.

The other day I was looking at a 928 turbo and that was Kjet set-up, i was chatting with the chap who owned it and he was very chuffed with its performance.

That's because Porsche spent hundreds of hours on an engine dyno properly sizing the various k-jet components and particularly the control plunger profile to get it to run well on k-jet, as did every other manufacturer who used CIS on a 'charged engine. Unfortunately these are resources no (or very few) aftermarket tuners have. K-Jet (CIS) was used because it was all that was available at the time, if they had the choice now Porsche wouldn't p1ss on K-Jet if it was on fire.

I understand wanting to do something a bit different but k-jet turbos have been done before and 90% of them are now running efi, because it just doesn't work out. But, it's your engines :)

thats a fair point martin, my reason at the mo is cost, although i ahve been looking at megasquirt.

but im only looking for 200bhp , so i reckon 6-8psi with a 2e bottom end and 16v kr head, should'nt be to far off.

or am i running in the wrong direction

Did i mention i also have a porsche 924 turbo kjet fuel unit and warmup regulator. The WUR senses boost and ups the fuel presssure same as on the quatro.

may buy the saab one on ebay at the mo

That guys escort was nice, the turbo was ok it's a t25 though so wont fit my manifold. I do have some other turbos that are t3 so may take them to a turbo place and see what they can make!!!

So? It was desinged to provide correct fuelling for the 924's 8v turbo engine, there's no way to guarantee it'll be anywhere near correct to provide adequate fuel throughout the operating range on any other engine. At best you'll be rich and not making the power you could, at worst it'll go lean and hole a piston.

It's as if people have a blind spot towards the fact that K-Jet is a form of management just as efi and even carbs are, and that it is tuned to the demands of a particular engine. You wouldn't take the ecu straight off a Chevy v8 and expect it to fuel a Honda B16 correctly would you?

From what I`ve learned over the past few months, you need a pooload more fuel for a forced 16v in relation to a forced 8v..

    //-->The
questions is keith would you really want to fuel a ponda? i drove a
civic typr r when i was looking to buy a new car and hated evry moment
of it. there was just something i didnt like about it.

I have aquired most the parts nows and all im looking for is the
manifolds and turbo. I am definatley going efi because it allows me
more chance of playing with the system once i learn the basics(plus my
1.8t fuel rail turned up today). Although k jet sounds a nice idea by
the talk that is going back and forth here it seems a bit more hassle
the it maybe worth, especially when i comes to wanting to add more
    power.

Heres a quick one. How much do jetta 16v gti's go for a friend is moving and offered me his.

good idea to go EFI. i just picked up an emerald ecu for my turbo conversion.

keith mac, whats your compression ratio running 2 standard gaskets? think im gunna use a metal spacer plate from BBM to lower my compression. says it takes it down 1 point, so i guess thats 9:1 on a KR engine. would like it to be a bit lower really.

ryan, one other thing you might want to do is bolt up your standard diff if your not running an LSD. im just going to use a 2Y box with a bolted diff. hope it will handle the 250ish bhp i hope to make.

Think 2 stacked gasket lowers it 1 point, mine read 180psi after I bolted the head back on.

Torque steer is horendous, and my diff hasn`t exploded... yet .

lod, my spacers drop it 2 points ;)

Martyn part of the reason why i want to do K-jet is cos everyone else has said DONT DO IT!!!

If it blows up on my car, I dont give ***** cos I have 6 cars (2*2.016vs, 3*8 vs and a mk1*1.1 (will turbo that too!!!!)), 2 spare g60 engines , a spare 16V 9A, 5 asorted turbos, 4 varying intercooler, and god know how many turbo kjet bits i've accumulated over my 15 years of dubbing!!! ;) :p

I also personally know about 7 people that are building turbo cars(not just swapping turbo engines in which pretty much anyone can do)using various methods and have access to their spares and knowledge!!

keith mac so i take it your using a 020 box, is it a 2Y box? any mods made to the box? also see your using megasquirt, who mapped it for you as i'll be going down the same road with my abf eaton.

And it hasn't occured to you that they're saying it for a good reason? If I told you that smacking yourself hard in the face was a bad idea would you go ahead and do it anyway simply because you've been told not to? [:s]

I'm not saying this to stop people doing something diffrent, far from it, i'm bored as f*ck of wandering about shows muttering "whoop de do, another 1.8T. Oh look, a VR6 with a shiny manifold, didn't see that one coming". I'm trying to stop you wasting your time and money on something that just isn't suited for your goals.I just can't understand the attitude of 'well, it'll probably die but i've got more in the shed', why go out of your way to make more work (and cost) for yourself? I've got an assortment of spare blocks and heads in the garage, but I don't think that make sit worth running my engine without oil because people have told me that might shorten it's lifespan a tad.

    Meh, it's your engine.

It`s the infamous 020, original 16v box so it`ll be the 2y. Fitted a helix paddle clutch stock 16v one just gave up!

Mapped it myself using a Wideband, you can take as long as you want.. Found VexMe to be a godsend, best bit of tuning software I`ve used.

May be going over to spark so I`ll be bugging Martyn

how long have you been using the 020with the setup your running at the mo? i wasthinking about trying out my 020 2Y box wth the help for bolting up the diff and 8v 5th gear (as it revs out in 5th as it is),

i'm looking to go fuel and spark on megasquirt, was hoping someone on here had a startup map i could use, asi'd like to get most of the setupdone on a rollin road.

Had the charger on for about 7 months now, had the clutch in for about 4months and the `box is still going.

I can post my fuel VE up but due to the Kent cams it`ll be way off anyone elses table, and I`ve got a starting spark table for FI if you want me to post that?

Sorry for sounding a bit ignorant but what do you mean by "bolting up
the diff"? I know what the diff is but how do you bolt it up?

Im using a diesel maestro gearbox which came fitted to the car so hopefully it will be a slightly stronger box.

Also using a kjet engine but with efi i think i am going to be short of
a few sensors? Can anyone fill me in on the ones i will be missing.

Im going to use fuel and spark hopefully on my engine so i would be interested in seeing you tables then keith.

And finally does anyone know how to fit skyline injectors to an audi 1.8t fuel rail cause i cant!!lol:)

the stock diff is held together with rivets all the way around it. these are the weakest part of an 020 box. u can get a kit that replaces these rivets with bolts that are much stronger, allowing more power to be put through the box mroe reliably. making the next weakest part in your box the gears themselvs. which is why some ppl chose to go for an 02A box as they are known to be overall a stronger box. im hoping the 020 with a bolt kit will hold up to about 250-270bhp. it all depends on how hard you launch the car off the line, and how rough you are with gear changes etc... only reason why im doing this in my mk1 is that i cant be botherd to make up custom mounts for the 02A swap. but ill probably go this rought in a couple of years time..
