Im in a bit of a dilemma, do I go the 1.8 16v turbo or 1.8t route. Im stuck because they both have good points.

Overall it will be the reliability factor for me that wins it. The car is going to used daily and driven hard.

The spec someone offered me below....he can do the following for me...and said it will be very reliable.

    Compression ratio 8:5:1
    T23/T3 Hybrid turbo Brand new
Audi s2 or was it rs2 pistons and rods
    Turbo technics manifold
    Turbo technics intercooler
Turbo technics 2.5" downpipe and full system excluding backbox
Rebuilt 1.8 16v bottom end (supplying bottom end aswell)
    2.0 head
    mk3 cable change box
    headset
    Have to get decent injectors
Ecu is my choice on top of the cost of the above

He said this should be a very reliable 300+bhp engine with a years guarantee/10,000 miles

How much should this cost me or is he pulling my leg with those bhp figures?

    Or do i go 1.8t?

im not sure about those bhp figures but if the cost of it is more than 4000 then i would go for the 1.8t (225bhp) route. the 1.8t lump is very reliable and ive heard is capable of running 280bhp+ with stock internals.

Gor for the 16v turbo, it will be different, you can get the same power that the 1.8t's are running (look at March's Performance VW, crazy German dude with 408bhp!) and reliability isn't going to be a problem.

16v Turbo, the 1.8T is a good engine but it does seem to have some reliability issues.

The old stealth 16v turbo conversions were excellent (and still is) and should leave alot of potential in the kit for more grunt.

yeah go for the 16v turbo its different, ive got the complete front end from a g60 corrado, just way up the price at the moment between a supercharged 16v or having the g60 bored out to 2.0l either way both should be good for 290 ish bhp

    16vt

20v would probably be cheaper and more reliable if you just left it standard, but if you're looking for 300bhp then I think there's far less to choose between the two.

I haven't even finished the current engine and i'm getting sooooo tempted to try a scrapyard 16vt project. It'll all go horribly wrong

im running a 250+bhp 1.8 16v turbo originally built by stealth still running k-jet and pretty much stock internals with no reliabilty issues what so ever which i've owned for almost 3 yrs now.
as others have said be different the yanks and the germans still favour these conversions producing some big power, check out this months and last months PVW

Ford escort RS Turbos used KE-Jet, and I think a few saab/volvo turbos ran variations of K-Jet. Have a search on google, and search the turbo forum here.

I would go 16v turbo with a BIG turbo and loads of head work[:D], but it would be cheeper to go 20vt. Also if u go with the s2 pistons the cc would be closer to 1.9. Im not too shure it that turbo would make 300+bhp maybe 280 bhp? To make it all work together u will need to put it on G60 management at least, orafter market management would be much better.

IF u do gofor after market management then u might aswell go 20vt as u will see around the same power for a lot less.

Dont know if that makes sence but i know what i mean.. . . lol

The Stealth/Turbo technics kit used k-jet with a k-star piggy back ecu to control fueling of 4 extra injectors on the inlet manifold. This differed i believe from the original TT kit which only used the original 4 injectors. A kit has just been on ebay without down pipe for around a grand.

Forgot to say, check out stealths old web site for all the info

f**k me!!! A grand?! How much does that make my 8v kit worth then? They are pretty rare AFAIK, unlike the 16v kits
