I am having 10 down pipes made at the moment, for the mk2 to TT, S3 ko4 etc engined conversions
The only problem is getting hold of the flexi part of the down pipe so they will be sold on a exchange basis.

what size are they going to be! don't really see how you can pre-make them as every engine conversion is different as to what mounts they have used, thats why they need to be custom made to every mk2, and one other thing is that you can't really get the down pipe on with the engine in place well not one made from 3" stainless!!

Um, they all sit on the same mounts - so there wont be a problem;)

As for the fitting, jus fit it before the engine goes in ;)

being as there is not even 1cm of clearence between the chassis and the rack, and you have to raise the one side of the engine to clear the master cylinder, and it also depends on whether you use solid front mount or vibtec. oh, and if you use a VR6 mount bracket or the standard 8v, and if you have PAS or not, all you have to do is have the front of the engine higher or lower and the 1cm clearance is zero.
but being as you have done this convertion and talked about it lots down the local boozer i'm sure i'm wrong ;)

like Lee said they dont all sit in the same place, mine sits on MK4 mounts so it sits closer to the o/s inner wing because of the 02M box, also sits further back

ok, no need to start a fight over it! I just thought with so many people doing the conversion with an 02A gearbox (like myself) that somebody may have started supplying downpipes...

Phil, i made my own from 3" ss bends and ss straight pipe, once you get the parts its very easy to see what to do! my down pipe from start to finish was just over 90 it was the 3" flexi that cost the money! i have continude the 3" system all the way thought with just one rear box and its still 3" over the rear beam too!! and does not knock!![:D] If you can not weld or do not have one, cut the pipe to size and get someone to weld it very easy! the best part about doing it your self!! is you don't have to pay someone else to do it [:D]
click on my sig link and go to the 20vt album you can see my down pipe!

Rallye i looked into this but been as the K04 turbo has a side exit onto the rear engine mount the down pipe has to be made with about 120-140 degree bend in it so the flexi pipe wouldn't realy bend that much! [:s]shame really it would be spot on, i've seen it used on some lotus 7's uummm!!!!

This has moved on a bit.............Many opinions?

I am looking into a two piece design, sleeve jointed and retained with springs similar to motorcycles. The down pipe will step down after the flexi to the original down pipe diameter over the rack and to the front box joint, enabling a good free flowing Sebring or similar exhaust to be used "down stream".

It will fit MK2s with factory mounts and those with power steering. I have decided to get a few made as their appears to be a demand for this.
These are being made by renound local exhaust manufacturer.

Price.....depends on the cost hoping to get them close to 150/175 exchange.
