I have set my heart on a 1.8T and I rekon i dare to have a go at fitting it myself (cant be that hard ) What sort of price would i expect to be paying for all the stuff to do a conversion into my Mk2? I assume the 150bhp engines will be cheaper than the 225bhp ones. What sort of mileage will be on a second hand engine? Cheers for any help Tom
Your first port of call will be the scrapyards, try putting out some enquiries on the national breaker service thingies (look on autotrader.co.uk for a few of them), you should be able to find something there. I'd try to steer away from the VW specialist scrappies personally, they tend to charge more for the things they know are in demand, like 1.8T engines. If you can, get an entire donor car, that way you can be pretty sure you've got everything you'll need off it.
I've gotta give this a go too! Being umming and areing for far too long now. Anyone know any companies that do a full conversion into a mk2, or at least do all the daft electrics? I'm unsure how much to take on myself with this but defo don't wanna get into doing all the electrics as I got a feeling they're gonna be pretty complicated and I want everything doing 100% from the start, i'm sure there are plenty of slip ups that cause grief. I'm sure there was a company that do conversions in the midlands, a big VW place. Can't find owt on Google tho - anyone want to be kind enough to post a link to them or any guides/info from previous "converters"? I know there's a few on here that have done it but I can't find them now - been away for a bit and got a clio 16v now! Gotta get the project going EDIT: Ooh, the other thing, has anyone heard of anyone revo-ing a 1.8T in a mk2 or would that just be silly? Edited by: CoRnBuRn
They've got the most pointless website in the world! No wonder I couldn't find it in search engines. Will have to give them a bell when I source a shell
Ha ha. That second link. K04 turbo, OK. But it also includes the K03 manifold/downpipe and the 150 BHP ECU. So much hassle to sort that lot out. Can't make out if that's the full loom or not either. Edited by: Seizure
