    Thinking about a little engine overhaul on my golf and hoping for some advice.
    The chains are starting to rattle so I'm thinking of doing them and I might as well do some other bits whilst it's apart. So far my list is;
    Chains
    Chain guides
    Head gasket
    Clutch
    Flywheel (possibly lightened)
    Crack pipe
    Thermostat and housing
    Oil cooler/seals (maybe external w/ thermostat)
    Plugs and leads

    Anyone think of anything I've missed (probably something really obvious) or and tips and hints?

    Thanks in advance

    speak to hotgolf about the flywheel.
    use a mk4 metal headgasket but take the middle bit out to raise the CR a little (think it gives to 10:1)

    There are some brand new VR6 engines on e-bay for 999, could be an option.

    Just had a look at those, not sure I would trust it. Selling for a mate always makes me nervous
