please help ,ive just blown my gbox on my valver (2y i presume ,1991) are the mkiii gti boxes the same or any other options ??????????/
i think its specific to mk2 16v...the 8v can can be fitted but the output flanges and ratios are differant i may know of a working gearbox
You can put any old box on... but yo will have to change the clkutch and flywheel as the 16v output shaft is larger -- it has 1 extra spline on it.
WHAT ABOUT THE MK3 20 16V ?? I SPOKE TO A BLOKE AT MIDLAND VW , HE SIAD THE MK3 8V WAS THE SAME !! OVIOUSLY NOT !!!
if you are anywhere near hull, give willinghams car spares are ring, or go on their website; i was there last weekend and there is a 16v mk2 with a 2y gearbox on it. www.wcsauto.com
Unless your racing or otherwise hammer the car to hell you might as well fit an 8V box and new 8V clutch, cheaper / easier to replace next time Course, acceleration low down will be a bit harder without revving more as the ratioes are slightly lower on the 8V box, but not by much.
Almost. The CHE, DFQ, and AMC coded boxes are (over here anyway) on the MK3 8V 2.0L and are a 24mm input shaft, just like the MK2 16V boxes. A direct fit in terms of clutch fitment and flange fitment (100mm). The ratios will be different. The 2Y and AGB boxes (MK2 16V) are 2.118 - 1.444 - 1.129 - 0.912 (those are gears 2-5 ratios) The AMC, CHE, and DFQ are 1.944 - 1.286 - 0.969 - 0.805 for gears 2-5. First, reverse, and the final drive remains the same. Broke
How are going to settle the speedometer gear?Because mk2 speedo gear and mk3 speedo gear is totally different the mounting point to the box also different.
ye ok if you can find one !!! didntknow about the mk2/mk3 speedo diference ? ive decided to have a go at rebuilding my box , ive nothing to lose !! my mate recently rebuilt a mk4 gti box with good results , so we`ll have a go !! thanks to you all for your input .
