16v abf rad issues please look going to see car tomorrow

    Hi going to look at a 16v abf that the seller said the rads blocked so it boils over

    What checks can I do to check this

    As going 70mile to view it

    Take a rad with you and change it, shouldn't take long, but could be headgasket issue, cap issue, water pump issue, thermostat

    common issue on these is the thin hose to the header tank clogs up where it joins the top rad hose, which means the system cant self-bleed

    probably a bit late now but check the o ring in the expansion bottle cap: mine was seated wrong and the car would just boil over

    If the hoses are on the driver side I think vwheritage has replacements... relatively cheap too.

    Unfortunately, the new one I have going to waste will cost too much to ship

    Left it couldn't take the risk as the wife would have killed me lol

    If it had been a 3dr then no questions I would have had it as had a few 5drs getting bored of them
