Why does a 16v have a smaller radiator (in length) than a 8v? Just curious. :)

    Just out of interest.

The 8V and 16V VWMS Rally Cars used Mk1 radiators!;)

Well, I learned last weekend that the 8v rad is supposedly single core and the 16v, twin core.

Translated (if that's code), two sets of horizontal 'pipes', one behind the other, at each level.

Can anyone confirm the same? It would make an awful lot of sense.

I was going to say they are probably the topfill rads.

Late Mk1 rads are the same as Mk2 8v. Early ones are top-fill.

I can't remember the part number from NWR's car. But he said it was Mk1, and I checked at the time, and it was. Can't remember which rad. now though, there were quite a few on ETKA!

Nope mk2 rads are different 16v is smaller than the 8v. A car fitted with air cod has an even larger rad.

Some late small block Mk1s still used the top fill rad, at least my A reg 1.3 Mk1 Driver did.

16v is smaller in length whereas the 8v is longer. The cowling on the 8v has 2 flaps on the left (looking down on it). On the slam panel there is 3 mounting slots - the first one on the left is for air con equiipped cars, second for the 8v and the 3rd for 16v rads.

yes i know the difference between 8v and 16v rads, i thought you meant mk2 8v rad was different to mk1 8v rad (excluding obvious difference between the topfill and not topfill)
